Hi,
does anyone have any ideas for alternative to crisps apart from apple and sweet potato?

Many thanks

Sorry I put this on wrong thread

Nuts or cheeses make good nibbles as do things like celery sticks, peppers and mushrooms.

Hi lanzlady

I was an absolute crisp fiend  - I never had a sweet tooth and could pass on any choc, desert or pud without a second thought - but crisps mmmm .

These days I never have ordinary crisps but if I get the real urge I do on occasion go for baked snacks - whatsits, pom pom bears, skips, nik naks, those french fries and pretzels - not the healthiest of things I know but as a rare treat when only a crisp will do they do the job for me - all these are around 11 - 13 g of carb per bag (from a multi bag not individual) and less fat than a crisp and as long as I plan for them my bs are ok.

If you want to make your own crisps any low carb veg very thinly sliced sprayed with olive oil and cooked in the oven are good - try celeriac, beetroot, carrot - you can get bags of veg crisps but they are on the big side and can be a bit expensive - I stay away because once I open a bag I have to finish them - but you may have better control than me

Popcorn is a good alternative. But make your own freshly popped popcorn with a very small sprinkling of salt, don't buy the sugar coated type available in shops.

Lanzladt,

You can get parsnip crisps in some shops, I've had them from Aldi before, and very nice too with about 1/2 the carbs of normal crisps. Nuts are great, just be careful as some are quite carby.

I love crisps, never had a sweet tooth but a savoury one instead. I don't eat that many now though, but I still do have a bag as a occasional treat, nothing wrong with a treat from time to time. Favourite are XL cheese, or seabrook's pickled onion, cheese and onion or tomato flavour, good crunch and nicely seasoned.

It's interesting to hear of others who don't have a sweet tooth. I have just about kicked the crisp habit and find a bit of cheese fills the gap.

I've never had a sweet tooth, but, never met a sausage I didn't like!

I often wonder how many type twos have been receiving messages fron their bodies but not realised it? Like so many, although I never sought out sweet things, I never equated carbs with sugar and so ate bread etc. I'd always go for crisps, or other savoury items, rather than chocolate and now wonder if my body was trying to tell me something?

Nuts.
Pork Scratchings
Pork Crunch < these are great. Crispy like crisps, but practically NO carbs.

Pork Scratchings! Didn't know you could still get them.
