CRY FOR HELP

I have had type 2 diabetes now for over 10 years, together with the related high blood pressure. I am being treated with tablets taking 9 for diabetes and 9 for blood pressure.

My dosage started some years ago with 2 tablets and as i have progressed and with each yearly visit to my GP practice (which has 4 doctors )the dosage has increased together with the number of types of tablets until my current level of 18 per day in total.

Recently I have become worried about the number of tablets I am taking and have considered seeing a private consultant who specialises in both diabetes and high blood pressure to seek reassurance and advice.

Before he could see me he needed a refferal from my GP. I have asked for this and today received a phone call from her saying basically the I would be wasting my money but she would be prepared to do this if I really wanted to.

Has anybody experienced this or has any advice which could help me.

You have already made the decision since you have asked your GP for a letter of referral. She has put doubts in your mind which is a form of brow beating.

I would persist in this. The only thing that can go wrong now is if the GP wants a lot of money for the letter. I would view that as a kind of bullying.

Go for the specialist. If you don't you will always wonder what would have happened if you had.
