Daibetes,antibiotics,thrush ?

This weds it will be two weeks of using antibiotics .
Amoxillin 500g x 4 daily .
(for tooth extraction = 3 abcesses)

Now I have awful burning thrush .
Using pessary/cream from the chemists .
I was up the last 2 nights with this .
BG levels are up more than usual .
through tonight with this .

Am off to the doctors tomorrow to query this ?
Any tips to get me through tonight .
 
Have you got any plain yoghurt. If you have then smear this over the parts that are causing you trouble. This might help as a temporary measure.
 
Tried cool water instead as have no live yogurt .
Just need to get through tonight .

Pain relief taken .
Shops tomorrow after shower and doctors .

Don't like taking antibiotics - but no choice
Had to - and now got this burning thrush .
 
Canesten cream and pessaries from Boots. No prescription needed. I second what was said about probiotics - Holland & Barrett? Good luck thrush is vile.
 
Try some Daktarin anti fungal cream. My pharmacist recommended it when I developed thrush due to antibiotic use. It worked a treat and didn't burn like canesten. Perhaps consider some probiotics as well to help healthy bacteria in the gut grow again.
 
,I agree with all of the above and keeping carbs to a minimum usually helps me. When I have 60g carbs a day (or less) I don't have that problem anymore even with antibiotics.

If symptoms persist, colonic irrigation will clear out the pockets of candida that hide in the bowel. You probably won't want to try this if it's just a one-off flare up though!

edit: I had a problem with tooth abscesses a few years back. Not nice, you have my sympathy.
 
Hi anna, I hope you had a better nights sleep last night. I had thrush many, many years ago and it is not pleasant. It can be passed back and forth with partner, if not noticed, but as it's painful and uncomfortable, that's probably not the case. I hope you feel much better very soon, good luck today

Just logged on before off to see GP/DSN
Will ask about all - slept on and off
Kept waking up due to burning and pain .

Hubby has NO CHANCE of getting near me RRB .
It's too painful .
Genuine reason/excuse .
Been using the old cansten without success .
So will ask about this and the Daktarin plus grab some
probiotic drinks too .

Probotic drink once a day. Cool wash the area. Not cold But cool. It does help. If the Burning is at a point where you can't cope. Use Ice on area for up to 30 seconds Trust me it helps. I get Thrush every time I have my Monthly's So Once a month I have it. Sometimes better sometimes worse. But Ice helps cool the area down giving you a chance to heal better.,
Caniston Duo the Pessary and cream works well with me.
 
Update is been to doctors this tues,weds and today .
After my eye inflammation(January) toothache,thrush (from the
antibiotics).
ALL has been revealed after a sore throat , and a rash that has
gradually and painfully followed my nervous system .
Been shaking oddly over the weekend and this week .

Shingles - am covered with this rash .
Never ever had this before - PAIN is unbelievable !
They said it was physical stress brought it on and its a bad case .
So I am battling this off now .

Docs have been great - kept their eye on me .
Given me all I have needed .
Pain relief , creams to put on the rash , oral tablets to blast it away .
Back on Saturday to get checked over .
Told to rest, plenty of fluids and sleep it off .

Never had shingles before - so it's a complete new experience .
Unpleasant and very painful so far ...
 
So are the tablets antivirals? They are brilliant for shingles. It is very painful, it's not just the rash, it's the shooting pains as well and the generally feeling lousy. You might find cotton clothing and sheets help.

My sympathies anna that's a horrid illness. Get better soon.

Oh lordy you poor thing. Both my ex-husband and my Grandmom had shingles. Just awful. I hope you heal very, very soon.

Last year i had to take amoxycillin and developed thrush. After about i month of keep going back to the docs they prescribed Fluconozole150mg and that seem to do the trick.
Cool baths were suggested with no soap or shower gels in. And don't laugh, but blow dry down below with a cool dryer, then apply canasten cream.
I did have a blood test at the time to test for diabetes but all came back ok.
Had another blood test done this jan and diagnosed with type 2.
The metformin has taken the burning thrush away though, so that is good news x
 
After a bad bout of thush I was given fluconozole 150mg, 1 every 3 days over 9 days. Both me and other half took same kept away from one another for 3 weeks and I was clear for 18 mths until next antibiotic episode. If it gets unbearable again may be worth asking about. Hope your well soon from them Shingles.
 
Hello, I could do with some help. After 3 rounds of antibiotics for a variety of reasons including tooth extraction I was left with oral thrush.
Prescribed Daktarin and it initially cleared up.
I am Type 2 with a decent HbA1c of 7.1, could be better but ok.
I now had to visit a urologist who tells me I have penile thrush, painful and flu like symptoms also.
He has prescribed Daktacort cream and a "clean" diet as the thrush lives on sugars, he tells me.

I am feeling downhearted and would welcome all advice gratefully
 
A friend of mine had oral thrush and was prescribed corsodyl mouthwash. you can buy it at the chemist. But there is another mouthwash the doctor can prescribe and that is called difflam. Hope you get sorted!
