So I'm 8 days into low carbing and was doing great until today. My stomach is in agony with pains similar to the very early stages of labour! Definitely not constipated as been to the loo about 20 times already. I'm thinking it may be connected to the sugar-free chocolate I tried earlier as a "treat"...
I hope that's all it is as I need to stick to this way of eating as my hba1c was 82 last week
But my goodness the pain

Hi and welcome @CactusJax

What brand of choc and how much?

I tried that Chocologic stuff a while ago. Cramps!
I very soon learned that my tolerance was only around 3 squares.

Yes that's the one! I ate a whole bar between last night and today. Seemed a good idea at the time!

@CactusJax , just a quick question.

Could you also confirm what diabetes medication you might be prescribed? (If any.)

Thanks. It can help with regards to tummy issue experiences as well as certain "D friendly" chocs...

I'm on 1500mg of metformin slow release, but been on that for years.
The pain has started to ease off a bit now. Think the poisonous choc may be all out my system now!

Even the outdated NHS warn us not to eat foods labelled "diabetic" because of the symptoms you experienced. It is the type of sweeteners they use.

Years and years ago I bought a box of “sugar free” candy, Derriere Farmer (edit from real name...) or Whitman’s, and ate a good many pieces in one go. Results exactly as you describe! Learned my lesson for sure. 90% Lindt choc, which wasn’t available in US back then, is So Much Better tasting!

Yep, lesson learned! "Real" food only from now on!

My daughter had a bout of tummy pains. We took her to the doctor who diagnosed constipation. His solution was to give her diabetic sweets.

@Listlad that is the PERFECT solution for a youngster!! You made me laugh! Talk about a gifted pediatrician. (I am serious here; as a one-off it’s much better than trying to get Miralax or milk of magnesia down a balky child. Ask me how I know.)
