Day-to-day varying vision?

This happened at the beginning, just after diagnosis when I was given metformin, but settled down in a couple of weeks. It was rather disconcerting at the time, and it would have been nice if I'd been warned about it. I hope yours settles down soon as well.

Mine does. Some days it's easier to read than others.

There is a possibility that it is due to 'posterior vitreous detachment' where the vitreous gel separates from the retina. This can give rise to many floaters, which are very noticeable at first, but diminish as the gel moves further away from the retina and the gap fills with fluid. PVD's are common and are as a result of age, not diabetes (as far as I know). I've had this in both eyes.

If you get a distortion in vision such as a vertical line appears to have a wobble in it, then it may be an epiretinal membrane, I've got this in one eye and it is due to diabetes.

My advice would be to ask for an ophthalmic examination, with iris dilation and also an OCT scan. If the waiting list turns out to be very long you may be able to find an optician equipped and experienced in such things. I am fortunate in that there is a local practice who are qualified for this type of work (privately owned, not one of the chains) and I was seen within a week.

I have had this. In fact I once had two pairs of glasses based on a bad day which became unusable in 2 weeks because my eyes were better and I couldn’t see out of either pair of glasses!

I think spec savers thought I was pulling a fast one as my eyes were changing also every 2 weeks. I still cannot get on with the new prescription but I am going to go somewhere else as their customer service is less than to be desired!

It was specsavers for me too! I called them within two weeks and told them and they said I would still have to pay for the new lenses. I didn’t want to do this as I paid for reactions and other additional options. I am also going elsewhere too. Especially as I told them on the day that my eyes seemed more blurry that day and they still went ahead.

I also experienced the varying vision, however after I got my Hba1c down to 6.4, it cleared up.

I am on insulin now so I am waiting for my next Hb1AC and if it has dropped a fair bit I will try again with my glasses

So glad I saw this thread.
Tried to explain this varying vision to friends and family, such as wearing contacts to see far but seeing things clearer with my reading glasses on far away. And my contacts may need changing?. Also this has come with bleeding at the back of the eye and producing floaters. Could it also be something to do with medicine change as I have been taken off Metformin ( which seemed to give me aneamia)!! Thanks
