Dental help needed for gums!

Hi, I live in Bournemouth down on the south coast (UK). I have receding gums which my dentist believes to be caused by the hard way in which I had brushed my teeth in the past. I want to get this fixed ASAP but am lost, my local dentist only saying they can't do anything about it and not being able to point me in any direction. Can anyone recommend a dentist (regardless of location in UK) that can help with gum repair?

You probably need to see a periodontist. Try using the mighty Google to look for one in your area.
 
I also live in your area @Tim_C and can highly recommend this practice, although I don't know if they deal with gum repair. They may be a good first port of call as they are local to you. I believe they are private only

I have receding gums, I have done so for while now. I used to smoke and that doesn't help the gums at all. My dentist referred me to Guys hospital, in London, a teaching hospital and with help and guidance on how to brush teeth the correct way and overall hygiene and care, it was beneficial.

Thanks for all the responses. I had changed my brushing habits having previously brushed too hard and since moving to an electric toothbrush. If I need to save up and get specialist (expensive) treatment in London or abroad, so be it.

@ally1 It's just a shame that so many dentists are unable to assist that which is beyond their capabilities

@poshtotty I checked out the site and I don't believe they do this type of thing, will give them a call though. Thanks.
@catherinecherub The WebMD site talks about different surgeries but has no listing of where these can be done. Gives a bit more food for thought though so thank you.
@Robinredbreast I think my brushing is OK now, just that I'm only 33 so I've still got two thirds of my life left to go and I'm not confident that my teeth are going to last that long! ;-D

Oh wow wonders why we can not get help with dentists bills? I had to have my two front teeth out and have a plate the dentist said it was probably the diabetes that was causing the problems...sighs
 
Don't know anything about receding gums or Bournemouth but you might have some luck contacting a dental hospital. They run clinics where people "volunteer" their teeth for students to work on failing that you may be able to get a referral from your dentist. Dentist referrals though are more clueless than GP's in my experience.
