Hi all, I just wanted to ask do many of you have issues with your teeth due to having T1 Diabetes ? I have lost all my teeth in my bottom jaw and only have 3 left in my top jaw due to bone degeneration in my jaw most my teeth fell out on their own without having to have extraction done , I now have dentures and slowly getting used to them . I was just interested if many had been affected by dental issues alongside all the other issues we have to deal with?
 
I am sorry to read about loss of some of your teeth. Your problem sounds unusual to me. I have always had six-monthly check-ups, except during Covid when appointments slipped. I am minus one tooth, but that is because I fell over, damaging my cheek, and I lost a tooth that got infected. I find that even without one back-tooth, eating becomes more difficult. When I was prescribed Alendronic Acid for osteoporosis I was warned that it can damage your jaw-bone. Are you taking Alendronic Acid?
 
Yep have same issues re loss of bone . I have 7 teeth left and have dentures I am use to them now! My dentist at the time ( whose name was Mr Smiley for real lol) told me if you use your body as your tooth , your bone should come up to your chest level ! He told me mine was between my chin and my knees, hence my teeth fell out , i haven’t lost any for years, i removed the last 4 myself and they weren’t rotten just nothing to keep ‘em in , my control is much better now than it was , probably why I’ve no had any problems lately ,
 
No I'm not , I haven't heard of Alendronic Acid until you just mentioned it now . I was just interested if many people had any dental issues die to having long term Diabetes as I've read in the past that Diabetes can affect the bone density in the jaw

Completely off topic but I was just switching between Facebook and the forum, and I think we just met over there as well on a 'sensor too cold' message.
Very deja-vu-ish confusion seeing the same name at the same time in both places!

And more on topic, no experience myself, I had lost many of my teeth well before diabetes. But diabetics are more prone to tooth decay. High numbers not only increase glucose in blood, but also in other body fluids like tears and saliva.
So if you've had diabetes for a long time, your teeth have had a harder time than if you hadn't had diabetes.
 
Lol I'm always loosing track of where I've posted . I've had T1 for 40 years and it's really only the past 2/3 years that I've been having dental issues. So I guess it's probably down to poor control over the years that have finally caught up with me

same for me I took it hard but I am now used to having the dentures.
