I will definitely try some low carb alternatives, my problem seems to be once I start I can’t stop. I need to learn self control, I think I must have a psychological issue wanting to eat until I’m full upHave you tried low carb alternatives? I also deal with cravings and I don't think I could do it without low carb desserts from places like DGF, and have recently added low carb wraps to some meals too. It's always best to test before and after meals to see how your blood sugars handle sweeteners to be safe but I owe a lot to products like these and many types of very low carb breads are out there. There is a brand of bread called hi-lo which I buy in the supermarket which is 5 carbs a slice, so by no means ketogenic but I have two slices now and then on lazy days with egg and bacon. I know some don't like them but I think it's better to try these things as it can prevent going back to eating high carb.
Thanks for the info! I’ll look in to Leto and I do enjoy eating nuts and proteins, just have to keep some cooked chicken or something in the fridge to snack on! Lots of useful and really lovely comments from everyone, what a great place to ask for advice!I am in keto, and no hunger pangs, craving, raiding the fridge, hunting in the cupboard.
It does take a little time the lower carb you go and the more satiating, satisfying natural fats you eat.
Meanwhile, take away the temptation, empty the cupboard, the fridge of those temptations, and like others have suggested, low carb small meals.
There is also intermittent fasting. Whichever way you choose to do it.
You may find like I did, that sticking to meal times, is just illogical. Why,?
Well, it's all to do with there should not be a hard static time to eat, flexibility, eat your meals when you want, get rid of the meals terms in your head, eat when you want, don't if you want!
Eating all the time every day is just in my experience and opinion, stupid and illogical!
I have no doubt like I did, you will get good days, like you have posted today, which is great, a positive outlook, optimism, taking it easier on yourself.
There will be dark days. It's not easy to get outof, you just want to stay in bed, or go to your safe place, block the world out. It is having the tools to alleviate those feelings, my first thought when I feel really rough is to look forward and believe that I'm doing the right things despite the feeling. I am getting better and tomorrow is gonna be a better day.
you might also find, that on certain days, the knocks keep coming, your partner is in a similar mood or angry, or if you have kids, they play on you, or the news isn't good, and more. Then that is the real time to get away from it. Go for a walk, go to your quiet place, your safe place, even go to bed, watch television, play your music, play a game, do something, to take the edge off the low mood.
Whatever you do, it you continue to have bad days. Speak to your GP, talk to someone when you are ready.
Best wishes.
How would one go about getting a second diagnosis? I’m not an expert of type3c, does that mean your pancreas has been damaged to the point of not producing insulin anymore? I had a ic peptide test after my second visit in hospital and was told it was okay?I'd still like @Jonwar1991 to get a second diagnosis (edit: if he's comfortable with that! If not, go with the flow. I'm not here to tell anybody what to do, it's just what I'd do). I'm not a doctor, I'm a botanist, but can't hurt right? Treatment for type 2 and type 3c (similar to type 1, just a different cause) is very different I believe
On a different note, as my trigs are what keeps causing me pancreatitis, shouldn’t I worry about having a higher fat diet? That’s what confuses me a little bit. Or will better diabetic control naturally reduce my trigs anyway? Scared of switching to low to no carb then my fats go too highI will definitely try some low carb alternatives, my problem seems to be once I start I can’t stop. I’m having eggs and cheese for lunches now, still eating ready break breakfast whilst I do some research to find some decent alternatives. I’m going to try and find some okay snacks to battle the cravings.
I'm exactly the same, and can struggle with binge eating. I found starting keto (and not counting calories, just keeping an eye on carbs) was the best I ever felt about food for months. I personally started doing OMAD to help with insulin resistance but have stuck with it simply because I enjoy having one large meal a day that fills me up vs. two or three smaller ones. I know that's not exactly a final solution but personally I only think I deal with hunger when I'm calorie counting, as the fat really helps (and my appetite has shrunk). For me this diet really helped me realise that certain foods are really addictive and it wasn't just my fault for not having the willpower - especially processed carbs. Just know you're not alone! I keep all my low carb "goodies" in the freezer and only defrost what I'm having that day, and I give myself days where I allow myself more.I will definitely try some low carb alternatives, my problem seems to be once I start I can’t stop. I guess you just ask to see another Dr and ask for tests to be done. I'm not saying you do not have Type 2 and I'm not saying that you have 3c and nothing I say here is a diagnosis -- I'm not qualified to do that and it's against forum rules. I'm just having a general chat. Yes, I think c-peptide is the main test they use to see how much insulin your body is producing, but they can do other tests as well which I believe can help support or disprove anything the c-peptide says. If your tests have come back showing that you pancreas is still functioning in the normal range then that's great! One less thing to worry aboutHow would one go about getting a second diagnosis? Sorry to hear about your hospital visits! I’ve never been to ICU must of been ever so frightening! I’ve never had it that bad, last time I was in I got bad stasis and collection pushing on my stomach so I had a bile tube for a week before they decided to try and feed me orally, luckily it worked.
Haven’t had a peptide test after my last hospital visit…
I think you need to ask your medical team about that but high fat is a trigger for pancreatitis for me. Makes it tricky for me because if I reduce carbs then either fat or protein goes up (the carbs have to be replaced by something, right?) Usually fat goes up for me which is not good for my condition. That said, I do eat a relatively low carb diet (average is about 125 g of carbs a day)On a different note, as my trigs are what keeps causing me pancreatitis, shouldn’t I worry about having a higher fat diet? You’re absolutely right, I don’t have an issue with eating or portioning correctly for a meal. I’m more of a raid the cupboards and eat whatever I can get my hands on type of person. I also crave the foods that I can’t have like pizza and bread, crisps etc.. I need to just learn to be better at self control to be honest. I’m doing okay so far with eating more protein and leaving out most of the carbs, not feeling too hungry. Having the motivation of weight falling off me is helpingIf you have a "once I've started I can't stop" habit - and believe me this is in NO way a criticism, lots of us are like that - could you try putting the right amount on your plate and before you start to eat, putting the rest away where you can't see it, or even in the freezer if it is freezable?
1. Clear your cupboards of anything carby. You’re absolutely right, I don’t have an issue with eating or portioning correctly for a meal.
