Please let us know how you went on and what you thought please as I am still waiting for a placement myself.Have just taken a phone call from the Desmond Locala service. They have a slot for me to attend on 26th February 2015 9am to 4pm be nice to meet people in the same boat.I feel ive let things slip diet wise this last couple of months or so what with the hastle of Christmas and all that.I know i need to get back on track now otherwise my next Hba1c may be higher than it was when it was checked in September 2014.If it goes over 7 i reckon the DN would put me on tabs.
Has anyone here been to a Desmond meeting ?

i,ve been on the desmond course and to be honest, it was a waste of time
i had/got more help and advice from members here
I haven't been on the course but have read many threads on the forum about it. I believe some of the information is useful, but you need to shut your ears to the dietary advice, which is the usual NHS Eatwell Plate stuff (starchy carbs and low fat).
What do you mean shut your ears to the dietary advice ?
Because it will let you believe you can eat anything you like, and you can't. You know you can't ... you have been on the forum long enough to know that.
I went to one about 4 years ago and judging by various post on the forums it's not changed much. Basically they will tell you to eat starchy carbs with every meal and a carby snack mid morning and mid afternoon such as a couple of rich tea biscuits. You will already be aware from this site that the beast way to keep your bs under control is to reduce carbs, but don't tell them that they will probably lock you up and throw away the key.
Yeah im well aware of that my diabetic nurse gave me a list of what to eat which included potatos and pasta etc and bread well i took it upon myself to eat Brown bread not white now.
Brown bread (wholemeal that is) is better for your general health than white, but contains just the same amount of carbs and converts to glucose just the same as white. Please test it, and be careful how much you eat.
