Hello.

I have previously watched a number of documentaries which has got me considering turning vegan.

I am thinking about this because in these documentaries it follows multiple people who have type 1 diabetes and they say how much better they feel and how they have halved there medication and they've stopped having all of there usual problems.

To me this does sound to good to be true as although these documentaries do look and sound legit, I still have this thing telling me it's all a farse to promote people into turning them vegan.

Is anybody on here a vegan/tried being a vegan or does anybody else have a good opinion other than 'it's not true'.

I look forward to hearing back from you all.

Corey.

You could have a look at the vegetarian/vegan section on the forum list. I'm sure you'll find members there who can help.

I'll tag @Avocado Sevenfold for you I know they are vegan and very experienced and always gives great advice - welcome to the forum

Not exactly, but I have tried low calorie, low carb, no dairy, no meat but with a few eggs a week. I'm type II and I felt pretty good, most notably not so many "lows" (mild depression).

Hi Corey, I am not type 1 so am not experienced or knowledgeable enough to advise you on your needs, but I will point out one thing. There are documentaries about veganism and there are documentaries about WFPB diets. These are different things and are often confused on this forum.

WFPB is a diet - whole foods plant based. A diet without animal parts and with whole, unprocessed, plants. It is possible to eat WFPB without being vegan. There is a doctor with type 1 diabetes who follows this way of eating who may interest you if you haven't seen him already. Dr Cyrus Khambatta, PhD Nutritional Biochemistry.

Veganism is defined as "a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose" [Vegan Society] It is not a diet, it is a way of life based on a belief of equality which extends beyond diet. It is possible to be vegan without following a WFPB diet. If you are looking for a good documentary about animal exploitation, I would suggest Earthlings. http://www.nationearth.com/

Good luck and good health with whatever you do
