Type of diabetes
Type 1
My husband was diagnosed type 1 December 2007, after suffering from a bad virus the month before (don't know if it was connected). Blood sugar levels are always fine and his diabetic consultant says everything is ok. My concerns are that his general health is deteriating, he is tired all the time (not depressed or anything) and when he gets in from work all he wants to do is sleep where as before he was very fit and active, constanly bloated (his diet is good and hasn't really changed since his diagnosis and hasn't had problems before), he has permanent diarrhoea (we thought at first this was because of the virus) and flutters and pains in his chest. He has had loads of tests but they all come back clear. He is starting to feel like he is wasting doctors time. I was wondering if any one could shed any light on this - is this part of the diabetes or related to it in any way. I would be really greatful for some feedback.

Bloating and diarrhoea could idicate diabetic gastroparesis. definately worth mentioning to the consultant. has your husband been tested for this?

Thanks for your advice, I will mention it to the doctor, but his problem is food passing through him too fast. I won't give all the gory details, but basically what he eats comes out the other end within about 3 - 4 hours.

I think there is also another disorder called Rapid Gastric Emptying if my memory serves me correctly which can also affect diabetics.
