I was diagnosed with Diabetes a few weeks ago, i have seen my doctor and the Diabetic nurse at the local surgery and have been told that over the next 3 months i need to try and control things using diet and exercise after 3 months i will be tested again to see if i need drugs to control my Diabetes.
My question is has anyone suffered panic attacks through poor diet i ask because about two weeks ago i let myself go at the office xmas party and that night and for the following few days had severe panic attacks eventually i got over them and have felt fine and contiued being careful with my diet until xmas day when again i ate far to much including puddings since then i have again been suffering really terrible panic attacks i just wonder is there a conection with blood sugar levels or is it just a coincidence.

Hi Mick,

Excessive alcohol consumption and high blood sugar levels are both known to trigger panic attacks, so it sounds like you didn't do yourself any favours at the office party or over Xmas. You might find this link helpful:

Funny that,I first went to the doc suffering with severe work related stress,it was then that I was checked out and found to have type two.Until now I didn't know the two were related. Dr J you rule! Many another doc would have thrown tabs at me and I might have gone on the way I was becoming more and more stressed, fat and damaged myself because I didn't know I was diabetic.

Thanks for your answers to my question, it is actually reassuring to know that the attacks can be linked to sugar levels. I feel so much better knowing that i can control this situation, since xmas i have been very careful with my diet and have been exercising each evening and i have to say i feel 100% better than i have done for ages.
Lesson learnt i guess there are no days off from diabetes

Mick,

"No days off from diabetes". What a great motto - its something that every diabetic needs to remember.
