Hello,
Although on the surface I can be considered as being relatively unlucky to be a Type-1 Diabetic....
Being a relatively wealthy, intelligent, health-conscious British Citizen, with all the help & support we get from the NHS, I feel somehow not so unlucky when thinking of my Diabetic doppelgänger living in:
- Ukraine, with limited/no access to insulin & needles, constant power outages, and not much diabetic-friendly food
- Poor African countries, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya - where to start...
- Even China, where I am currently writing this post (on a business trip), in Lock-down near Beijing; where NovoRapid costs £40/pen, packs of 7 needles are £4, and CGM's are only possible to buy via dodgy imports through Hong Kong. A far cry from free NHS repeat orders...
I donate to JDRF - perhaps not 100% altruistically, since medical break-throughs may one day directly help me!
But I have recently wondered about how people cope, living in sub-optimal conditions and also having insulin-dependent Diabetes. Are there any Charities working directly on this?
Google didn't really yield much... does anybody have any thoughts or suggestions for me?
