Diabetes entitlements

hello my names stuart and im 25 insulin dependant diabetic. I was diagnosed as a diabetic 2 years ago whilst working as a scaffolder since then i have also developed severe depression and also a form of ocd which allows me too obsess over my own thought's. i am finding it hard keeping jobs due too attendance i see no future in my life and am considerin my second suicide attempt obviously my first was unsucessfull i thought 180 units of nova rapid would have dne the job but was found too soon. can anyone shed some light on the situation and tell me if im entitled too any benefits so my future does not seem so pointless i currently recieve nothing...

Hello Stuart and welcome to the forum.

I am so sorry that you are feeling so low at the moment but am glad that you are still here. There is nothing so bad that there is no help.

You do have to ask for help, though, as generally people are a bit reticent about offering help otherwise. Do you have family around you and do they and your friends know what is happening to you and about your worries?

I don't know much about any benefit entitlements but do know that the CAB will have all the information that you need. If you look up Citizen's Advice Bureau in the telephone directory you will find where they are.

I am not on any medication at the moment so haven't any advice regarding that but there will probably be aomeone with more knowledge along soon.

Please go to your doctor and tell him exactly how you are feeling. 8)

Hi,

I'm new here also. Sorry I can't help with diabetes entitlements. However, I do have a form of OCD too and get depressed. I have other medical problems and I'm just recovering from operation no 6 in five and a half years. Please go to your GP and ask for help. It is available, but as Synonym said you have to ask and open up to your problems. I did and it does help. I've just completed a 3 month course of hynotherapy and it has helped. I was very sceptical to start it.

My son attempted suicide 10 years ago, fortunately I found him in time, so I do have some experience to what you are feeling.

There ARE benefits available, but they tend not to be advertised at all! Disability Living Allowance (DLA) was recommended to me by a friend with similar mental health issues to you, I was amazed I had not been told about it before. The form is lengthy and quite complicated, so best to get assistance in completing it, CAB may be able to help you out.

hya stuart,
try the directgov internet pages for benefits as there is sickness benefits,income support/job seekers allowance that u may be entitled to,
i too was suffering badly from depression,anxiety and agorophobia for a few years so know how u are feeling, life can and will improve for you if you want it to

I am on these two medications and they work well at controlling BS and I dont think I am feeling any mental side effects but could they potentially contribute to sexual disfuntion which is starting to be a big problem for me
 
i dont think i have heard of the insulin doing this but i know that diabetes its self can u are entitled too viagra on the nhs id look into that if ur experiancing this... everyone else thanks for the advice i have tried claiming jsa b4 and got turned down apparently im not entitled as i had not paid enough NI contributions whilst self employed but as far as i am aware i paid it all from my tax rebate..

You may find that your council has a 'benefit maximisation team' which exists to make sure that everyone claims what they may be entitled to. Ring your local council - first thinking of all the different names they could be using! :roll:

We used to call the DHSS the Department of stealth and total obscurity but I think nowadays they are even worse. - the new system seems to work on the basis of if you don't know you can't claim and if you don't ask you don't get. :evil: :roll:
 
Hi Stuart. I am sorry to hear that you are feeling so bad. Please ask your doctor for help as there are a lot of different therapies on offer which may be of benefit to you.
There is a website called DirectGov.co.uk which has information about different types of benefits and gives guidance about eligibility and how to apply for them. I hope that this helps.
 
You may be entitled to DLA, Incapacity Benefit, Income Support, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Beneft and Working Support Allowance. You can apply online at Direct Gov site. Please PM m if you would like further information on filling out the DLA form as it is very important that you describe matters on your worst day so they get the full picture.

Don't give up, life can become better if you work at it and longer term you may be able to return to work. You do have a future, many of us have felt the same as you but it takes patience and strength to pull yourself out of the hole.
