diabetes information

Hi Gohstb

Welcome to the forum.

Having followed the link that you posted I would be very wary of advice which recommends large quantities of carbohydrate in a diet for diabetics.
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a few years ago and followed the 'plenty of carbs' diet recommended by most of the NHS 'experts'. The result is that my Metformin dosage was increased to try to combat the upward trend of BG then onto increasing doses of Insulin for a couple of years until I found this forum and learned about the relationship between carbohydrate intake and BG levels.
Since reducing my carb intake in January I have been able to reduce my insulin dosage by 20%, have lost over 1 stone in weight and have got my BG levels down.

On these fora you will find lots of helpful advice from people who have been diabetic for a long time so have the experience of what works and what does not.

Happy browsing and the best of luck.

Phil

I too would say beware of "plenty of complex carbs"
Our validation is that we are all diabetics and many of us have excellent control( at non diabetic levels) Does the blogger give credentials?
I didn't see any

Hi ghost,
I followed your link, If i ate that many carbs i would be in the high 20's at least! That looks like a high amount of carbs to me!
I could never eat that many! I have found myself and asking others on this forum and great advice it has been to cut down on carbs!
If i did as that said then i would be spiking all over the place! Maybe i am wrong! Seems like the advice that the doctor's would give! And to alot of diabetics that would not help as it would cause alot of problems not just with blood glucose levels with all aspects of trying to make our life's better and get better control!
I would second think and have a look around before i followed that sort of advice! Dangerous combo i think!
