Hi everyone im New Here , my question is can missing a night without sleep be a factor of a diabetes mellitus ?
the story : i couldn't sleep a whole night while i had to go to the beach next day, well i was stubborn and dcided to go the BG was ok the rest of the day until i was back home then i injected basal insuline and fell asleep and got chocked at the morning with a BG spike and DKA traces and im still fighting it since 3 days now ( i don't have a cold or flu or any noticeable infection )
thanks

Lack of sleep wouldn't have been the cause.

Did you take all of your intended doses and eat throughout the day?

Ketones are caused by not enough insulin or not enough food.

Hope you feel better soon!

I was in the ER last weekend and they found I had ketones from not eating. I was told I had to eat. But since then I found out I have another infection so probably explains why I had ketones as well (I did skip a meal though before I went to ER). I'm not type 1, but I'm on insulin because I have insulin deficiency so because I hardly have any of my own insulin I'm at higher risk of DKA just like type 1's are. Did you skip meals? I wouldn't think sleep would've caused ketones not unless you're sick which you've already mentioned you're not. I agree with the others, either lack of food or lack of insulin would cause ketones.
