Diabetes Reversal


Thanks for your words of encouragement, it keeps me going knowing how many on here have achieved what I want to achieve. I don't think I was in 'denial' as such with my diabetes as it came as a huge shock to me (although not sure why as diabetes runs in my family on my mother's side, plus the fact I am obese and fit all the metabolic syndrome criteria) but I still thought 'it wouldn't happen to me' but I think it has hit home with the fact that I am now on medication which I vowed never to be on and thought I would be able to control it with diet and lifestyle changes and believe me, I have tried very hard to lose weight but these so called slimming clubs had no effect on me - I was basically wasting my money. I will keep you all posted with my progress.

I have a question - now that you have got your BS levels to what you want them to be, are you careful all the time or do you have the odd pizza, mcdonalds, chips etc? just wondered and if you do, how does it spike you? thanks

I try to remain disciplined, but the temptations I do give into are:

Oppo ice cream - low carb, but still mustn't be silly

Berries - sometimes more than a handful

Nuts - sometimes more than a handful

Dark chockie (70%+) - sometimes more than a small square

When I do give in, my numbers tell me pretty quickly

I am certainly a long way short of feeling I have my addiction to carbs "licked"

Gulp! Kidneys won't like me for it, that's for sure.
Although my blood test all came back good, especially my liver one. Specialist is delighted. So am I.

I don't think I'll ever be able to reverse my diabetes but I can definitely do good management.
Metformin please don't left me down when I start you again next week. Mind you I have confidence in my insulin now so if it doesn't I can still manage my diabetes well.
 
Re-diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 16 months ago - (initially crossed over into type 2 diabetes in 2005). I use the low carb diet, nutritional supplements, and walking daily or every other day. Improvements continuing. Why not try? Nothing to lose, that's for sure. Oh, and cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL and LDL are the best they've ever been despite eating lots of healthy fats, though I do limit cheese to a few servings a week. My last A1c was 5.4%. Go for it!

Do any of you buy products from Avidlite? I've just been looking at their website and it has lots of products I'm interested in like the low carb pastas and flour to make bread and pizza - almost sounds too good to be true! - expensive though.
 
I've used Avidlite occasionally for Sukrin products (sesame flour, bread mixes, or sugar alternatives), depending on the price as these are also available direct from Sukrin's UK website and via Amazon UK. I can't comment on Avidlite's other products as I mainly eat fresh foods, but the service was fast & friendly.

The Sukrin bread mixes are expensive but they are very low carb, quick & easy to use, and also quite filling so you shouldn't need to eat very large quantities.

PS @ickihun and @KevinPotts: I think I could possibly complete the carbs, protein, fats addiction trio, as I think if anything I'm probably addicted to the fattier/oilier foods now!

Took me a long time to work this out, and it may only apply to me. I had the usual problem associated with Metformin, and while it became less frequent, it still occurred too often for my liking. The instruction label for me says 'take one tablet after evening meal' So I did. I then had some thumb twiddling time, and had a look at my diaries of food, exercise, and any observations. A pattern emerged, I had been following Micheal Mosely's 5:2 after a fashion, and still follow roughly a 6:1
The 'tummy troubles' recorded in my diary were always the day after a Very Low Calorie day. I concluded that the instructions to take after evening meal should not be taken literally. So now when I have a low food intake day I dont take the Metformin either, on the basis that for the purposes of the tablet I haven't eaten. I no longer have any tummy troubles.
I am not saying that would work for others, but might be worth a try?
 
I have to share this, it has put a smile on my face I tested my BS before my evening meal tonight and my reading was.......5.9 I haven't seen this number since I was first diagnosed 5 years ago. I'm doing the Blood Sugar Diet with 5:2 and not only am I losing weight but most importantly my BS levels are lowering - long may it continue.
 
I've reduced my protein and allowed metformin to take the edge of my GI low carb diet. Still no weight loss this week but in a few weeks I'm going to try 20g carb again and see if any weight loss.
 
Not sure about giving up your medication but definitely try the LCHF diet like everyone suggests and you will see a drop in your blood glucose level. No harm in trying.

I use the online walks by Leslie Sansone, in some of them she leads a group, in others she is on her own. there is variety in both length of time and activity. I also use a commercially produced small piece of equipment which has helped to keep my arms toned as the weight came off, not completely but I am working on it and it only takes a few minutes 3 times a week. When the weather is fine I walk outside, and now have several different walks to suit my mood and time available.
A new routine and online support have been really helpful in keeping me motivated.
 
I'm so but peaple can say you can reverse diabetes but in my eyes all you can do is manage it,everyone goes on about low carb diet but all that does is stabilises it YOU ARE STILL DIABETIC
