Diabetes T2 reactions to clarithromycin

I am T2 on metformin & due to an infected cyst I needed antibiotics, gp prescribed clarithromycin, told me not to take my statins which I didn't... oh my god I felt so ill had tablets with my last meal on Thursday & then again Friday morning with breakfast, by 11am I got bad hunger pangs in stomach then checked bs & it was 4.5 at that level I end up with bad headache's & was shaky... ravenously hungry... ended up not being able to go to work felt so tired... phoned pharmacy who said contact gp so I waited for call back only to be told continue with antibiotics.... ?? By diabetic nurse.... not taking them now & feel normal again but still got original problem... anyone else had a reaction to these tablets?
