Diabetes type 1 and male fertility

My husband (32) has diabetes type 1. It is reasonably well controlled and he is in good health overall. We will start trying for a family soon and I was just wondering what other people's experience concerning fertility is. At my pre-conception doctors check up I was told that if we haven't conceived within 6 months I should come back and bring him along for a check up (because he has diabetes, otherwise she said to come back after one year). My husband has also had his regular check up at his doctor and has asked if any of his medication has an influence on his fertility. So for now we are assuming everything is fine and hoping that I'll get pregnant within a "normal" timeframe. However, if there is anything specific that we could be doing now (in addition to the usual healthy eating and lifestyle etc.) or if anybody has some experience to share, I'd love to her from you. Thank you!

Hi Eli,

Difficult to answer as so many other things can influence fertility not just diabetes, if it's any help I had my youngest child at 33 and that was after having type 1 for 15 years.

Good luck and hope you are both successful!
