Hi

I am hoping to take my Class 2 HGV licence next year. I was diagnosed Type 2 two years ago and control it via metformin 2g daily. Does anybody know what restrictions there are on applying for a Class 2 HGV if you have type 2 diabetes ?

This Diabetes.co.uk page may give you the info you need:
http://www.diabetes.co.uk/driving-for-w ... vices.html

The DVLA updated page:
http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/medical/Anne ... betes.aspx

The following is copied from the DVLA page:
When treated with medication other than insulin which carries a risk of inducing hypoglycaemia (including sulphonylureas and glinides), the following standards have applied since September 2010.
There has not been any severe hypoglycaemic event in the previous 12 months
The driver has full hypoglycaemic awareness
The driver must show adequate control of the condition by regular blood glucose monitoring, at least twice daily and at times relevant to driving*
The driver must demonstrate an understanding of the risks of hypoglycaemia and
There are no other debarring complications of diabetes

So if you meet the criteria mentioned in the above, there should be no reason why you can't hold a class 2 LGV.
