Diabetic Hypos affecting Others

Does anyone else suffer from being able to treat a hypo when you are on your own, but when you are with someone who knows you you get all stubborn and sit there waiting for them to treat you? It's almost like testing the person you're with and it makes me feel awful . I think my fiance finds it difficult to understand why I won't get myself something to eat when he is around, he doesn't know if he can cope with it now after two years. He has seen mild hypo's, but this week I was told I will be losing 13k of my wages so the stress has caused several bad hypo's and I need to know if there is only me in the world that does this weird thing!
 
No! I have been known to do this too! Not all the time mind you, but if my hubby is there, I do, on occasion, let him look after me. Does he like it...of course not! To be fair, this is usually a night time thing...if I have a mild hypo. We helped teh situation, by keeping "emergency rations" by the bed...and him being quite firm with me. He nevr shouts at anyone or anything, so this came as quite a shock, and I do now sort myself out for mild hypo's most of teh time. It helepd having a chat about it when I wasn't hypo, because, like you, at other times I realise just how unreasonable I am being...and him realising this, stopped him worrying that tit would turn into an argument after the occasion.

You know your relationship best....but you are not the only one!
 
Thanks, it's a relief to know it's not just me! Hopefully when my partner reads your response he will understand his half of the deal, it must be pretty scarey though. I have only seen someone in a hypo once and it frightened me to death - I'd rather be the person having the hypo
 
I forgot to metion, I do suffer from extreme "Idon't want toget out of bed when it is cold itus".

I too have only seen a couple of hypos. I am currently reading a book about a blog from an ambulance driver...and everytime he mentions hypo's he mentions that diabetics who are hypo are notoriously uncooperative!
 
Thanks Sugar. What's the book called? My fiance has just read your blog and says "She sounds just like you then doesn't she!" , he gets it now that I am not just making it up! Feel better knowing it's not just me - it's pretty weird; with my mum I get all aggressive, with my Dad I cry, with my mates I just start almost breakdancing (fortunately I have understanding friends!!), with my Fiance I think I go into helpless female mode - I must watch too much tv!!:mrgreen:
