Dear Type 2 Diabetes Community,

Hope you are enjoying the Sunday.

I had two (2) photocoagulation laser treatment sessions for proliferative diabetic retinopathy. The floaters are still there in my left eye even after a month and unfortunately, the treatment was very uncomfortable, painful like applying lime drops to your eye, itchy after some time and I experience severe migraines which I did not have prior the treatments.

If you know or have experienced about this treatment, could you kindly let me know if these are natural effects please? Do you feel I really require laser treatment or shall I wait for the floaters to go away naturally?

Right now, my cholesterol, glucose and blood pressure are controlled after I went into strict diet and exercise. However, the left eye is still not seeing properly, blurred and unable to read. It has the cobweb floaters which I don't feel is improving at all.

Looking forward to any feedback please. I am anxious of the long term effects of the laser treatment.

Sincerely,
Elena

Hi Elena,

Ive had 2 lots of laser treatment to my right eye, the most recent was at the beginning of this year. I found the actual treatment uncomfortable but tolerable. I was a little afraid of having it done incase of potential side effects but given that risk or losing my sight I decided to have it done.

My eye afterwards seemed to take some time to settle but now it’s feels great, I get the occasional floater that seems to disappear of it’s own accord quite quickly, at my latest review the consultant was very happy with how it looked. I do have the odd headache/migraine but I had these before the treatment also so I can’t attribute them to the laser treatment.

If you’re at all concerned try contacting your consultant or specialist nurse for further advice and information.

hope you’re feeling better soon
