Diabetics R Us

Friend managed to contact her dad last night. He is ok but was a bit unnerved by the bullets flying past his windows first he knew of it was hearing gun fire and thinking it was a car backfiring her step mum ended up taking tea and coffee and blankets out for those who needed them and as the police have cordoned off the area they have had to spend the night elsewhere.
 

Good news. And a kind gesture with the blankets etc. We humans arn't all bad.

Our hatches are well and truly battened down. We had to carry Ness out of the back door for her widdles, and that was after catching her before she ran to hide under the table when we opened the patio doors. Mr Blue was very brave - he went out with her with his waterproof on and hood up. Ness also had her coat on. She did the fastest wee and poo in history.
 
The rams are back in my garden. I just found out when I was going to feed the chickens. I like them in my garden, but now I'm not drunk I also found out that one of them scares me quite a bit. The other one was a bottle baby and is very friendly but I don't know the other one too well, and I'm not sure how to keep him from head-butting me...
Took the chicken way to the chickens, from the outside of my garden directly into their pen, over the fence.
 

I used to have a friend, a sister in a convent where the next-door neighbors' sheep were always getting into the convent garden. I always thought sheep in a convent garden was very appropriate, but I'm not sure the sisters would have agreed with me!

They did love watching the lambs at play.
 
When a youngster my parents house had quite a large garden next to the house there were several farmers fields My father having been trained in his youth as a market gardener was though not a keen gardener a very good one so he grew all manner of vegetables and fruits quite often we would find about 6 or seven cows browsing in the garden used to drive dad crazy but the farmer just used to shrug and say what can I do.

If it wasn't the cows it would be some of the horses from the local riding school.

Evening all

It's very windy here this evening.

Been to Ikea today for a few bits, unfortunately it's about 70 miles each way. We had brekkie on the way there and then a late lunch on the way back. Lunch was in TGI Fridays, I had a crispy duck salad and it was delicious.

I just now received a package from Ikea. It arrived a couple of days early -- yay!

Where we used to live we were surrounded by farmers fields. One of the fields was council owned. One year, in the days before animals in circuses were banned, the travelling circus set up in this field. They hitched up to our outside water supply for their water needs in exchange for free tickets to the show. Every day we were able to watch from our garden as they practiced on the field. The best were the horses being taken through their routines of dressage and a wild west routine. They exercised the elephants on the field, walking them past our garden fence, had an all doggie football match, and several times we found llamas in the garden.

As for cows, one group of them broke through a fence and managed to demolish our green house. That was not funny because of all the broken glass that took forever to remove.
 
Plenty of manure for the garden though.
 
@Bluetit1802 I really enjoyed reading your circus story. Thanks for posting it. (Sorry about the greenhouse, though -- what a mess!). When I was growing up people could still keep horses in their back yards if they had enough land. I thought we had enough land (1/4 acre!) but my parents did not agree. But it was great to be able to take a drive around the area and see real live horses grazing outside people's houses.

City zoning ordinances, I think. The area has to be zoned for livestock. And in one case, I think the two daughters of the house just outgrew wanting to ride, or went off to college. That's often when the parents sell the horse. In this case they sold some of their land to a developer who built a huge luxury condominium complex down the road and put a private golf course where their pasture had been. The horse who lived just across the road broke out of his pasture one time and was hit by a car and had to be put down.

I never knew what ever happened to the palomino on the corner. I do remember when kids used to hack their ponies to the local horse show grounds. There's still a boarding barn there but they don't hold shows anymore and there's no pasture for the horses. But of course that golf course (a different one) had to remain!

When I was about 8 or 9 I had a few horse riding lessons and that inspired me to nag my parents to buy me a horse. I went on and on. Dad said we had nowhere to keep one. I suggested he could park his car on the driveway and turn the garage into a stable. Our garden was a very modest one with a suburban semi-detached house!!!! Needless to say, my suggestion was ignored. Probably a good job as I stopped my lessons fairly soon after that. I didn't really enjoy them. I just loved animals, and still do.
