Bit of a disaster yesterday. We set off on our very much needed holiday to Derbyshire. All organised. Car loaded to the roof with all but the kitchen sink including food and wine for the week. Dog safely secured in the back, wearing her cool coat and sitting on a cool mat. 7 miles later, the car ground to a halt on a main road. Clutch gone. Cars lined up behind us as they were unable to pass due to heavy oncoming traffic. Chaos. Luckily a man appeared and helped push the car to the side and partially on the pavement. He then invited us to his shop 50 yards along the road where he gave us comfortable chairs and plied us with drinks, including the dog. There were fans going so it was lovely and cool inside. Blazing heat outside. The recovery vehicle took 90 minutes to arrive and another 15 minutes to winch the car up. Our car is now parked outside our house awaiting transportation to our local garage tomorrow.
Upshot is, we have cancelled the holiday, have decided to scrap the car (it is a teenager) and buy a new one, otherwise it is throwing good money after bad and we will need a new one at some point anyway. Very disappointing, very stressful whilst it was all going on, but now feeling positive. New car a distinct possibility, enough food and wine in the house to sink a navy, and I can relax and watch the men's Wimbledon final in peace this afternoon.
Somehow lost my insulin pen yesterday while sailing. Stupid. Luckily I guessed my dose perfectly for lunch, before losing it and we had a bbq dinner afterward so I could just skip the carbs. Too bad I had to skip the beer and the icecream. But I did get to eat a small piece of bread, as the captain unexpectedly let me dock the (27 meter steel) ship in a pretty narrow harbour. Very high concentration plus a generous amount of cold sweat dropped me remarkably so a piece of bread was called for before taking a plunge in the harbour to get rid of the sweat. It was only a day trip, so no panic about the insulin, as I keep a spare pen at home.
All in all pretty much a perfect day!
And then today life got even better. I went to feed the animals and saw a tiny wet newborn guinea-piggie! So I sat in the garden next to their pen and got to watch three more perfect little guinea-piggies being born!

Nope. And it's flat bottomed , only 80 cm deep at the bow and has this long bowsprit with a sail attached pulled up to take less room in the harbour which makes the bow catch the wind and drift even more. Felt pretty proud after docking, especially as the captain was on the fore deck to work the lines and thus couldn't help me out should I do something wrong!
And very grateful to the friend who spontaneously checked my bg halfway through the manoeuvre without asking me or bothering me with it. She's officially a little mentally retarded (don't know the pc English way to say this, but she has big problems with reading, writing and very simple maths), but she also is the person I would want to handle my insulin should I ever be impaired.

Well, the biggest configuration would be the fact thas she HAS a motor. Definately not guzzler if they had their own place it wouldnt i went through all this with my own sons when they was at home but if you get it for them they will let youI need grown up input. Should bed and board include personal items such as beard oil, aftershave, razors, shampoo and conditioner etc? I think not but XL sons have ganged up on me. Little do they know I am infamous for my tightwaddedness! PS. Is that even a proper word?
