Diagnosed today

I have just been to a cancer conference and have info in front of me saying not too eat too much red meat as they increase the bowel cancer and prostate cancer!!!
You're pretty unlikely to develop prostate cancer!

I remember when that red meat/processed meat/cancer scare hit the headlines. Much debated on here it was!

Turned out that the journalists and quite a few medical professionals were muddling processed meats (any colour) and processed fats (eurghh!) with red meat and unprocessed fats. The reality, of course, is very different, as shown by the original research.

What a pity that this confusion is now being embedded at HCP level.

Incidentally, why does diet coke affect anything? I read the can and it doesnt have anything that i can see would!
Hi neety41, I have changed diet coke for zero coke does not spike me and love it now.

Yes a lot of diabetics seem to do Slimming World and do well

I can eat seeded bread and my sugars are ok, also nibbled on strawberries, bananas and raspberries today, all good
Hi netty41, I can eat raspberries / strawberries / melon / pears / dates / all in moderation throughout the week , some can not just keep testing you will be fine.

In my experience completely disagree, I adopted LCHF in January - only eat butter (no margarine rubbish), love cheese - my cholestorol fell through the floor in 3 months - back to a safe level, my Doc was very happy

Moving to very low carb and tripleing the amount of cream and butter and animal fat in my diet raised my total cholesterol by 0.1 unit, decreased my triglycerides and improved my HDL. Optimal ratios all round now. I luuuurve butter.

On low carb I had to increase my fats once I lost all my excess weight to halt the loss. Red meat, loads of butter, cream, ff yogurts etc yet my cholesterol lipids have improved test after test. Trigs are perfect as are all my ratios.

You really have to turn a lot but not all of the healthy eating conventional thinking of the last 50 years on its' head.
If you keep to the central premise of avoiding carbs and eating quality foods without over indulging all should be good.
Quality red meat is a valuable source of B vitamins, Iron , Zinc , Phosphorus and other vitamins and minerals, including it in moderation makes getting a balanced diet easier.
