Just been diagnosed today with type 2 with a hba1c of 48. Whilst this is not a surprise as I knew I was pre diabetic I am really upset. Been struggling with my weight, tiredness and awful hot head sweats for 4 years which was why I saw my gp again,I'm constantly gaining weight, unable to lose like I have in the past and I now just feel hopeless. Been told I don't need medication, just to cut down on carbs. No idea what to eat now, planning when working full time etc is so hard and no answer for my awful head sweats. I probably hoped for a magic pill! Feeling very sorry for myself right now
sorry for the rant.

Well you've taken a great step coming here.
I won't advise on dietary issues but I'll offer you some hope.
You are on the very bottom rung of diagnosis >47.
There was a poster here earlier in the week who was at 54 and their doc gave them 3 months to turn it around before a formal diagnosis.

Your weight gain is simply down to excessive carbs in your diet, your body has been forced to produce large amounts of insulin to keep your glucose levels down.
This hyper insulin causes weight gain which causes insulin resistance.
It's a viscous cycle which you now have the opportunity to break, it's completely up to you.
Pills in your situation would be counter productive as they wouldn't treat the root cause, your dependence on these drugs would increase over time and your condition will worsen.

Read up on low carb, get a meter and stay on the forum for advice.
Good luck.

Hi @Neptune11 , and welcome to the forum!

I mainly add some veggies and/or meat to what I ate before diabetes and leave out the pasta/potatoes/rice. cooking doesn't take more time than before.
What are you used to eating? Perhaps we can help you with some ideas on how to easily adjust your usual meals

With a hba1c of 48 you might find you'll need only minor adjustments to get back to non diabetic numbers!
