Diagnosis and Cholesterol

Hello, I was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes today and came out with so many questions about this but of course once I had left the doctors I have another appointment with the nurse next week and am also trawling through the really helpful information here. He also said that my cholesterol was 8.4 and has referred me to a Lipid clinic. How long do you usually have to wait for the appointment to come through and what happens at the clinic. There is a history of Angina in my family, with they be tesing for this? I am a 42 year old female

Re: Diagnosis and Cholesteral

Hi Jakjo,

I'm not going to be much help, as I didn't even know they had lipid clinics, but welcome anyway. I'm sure that more knowledgeable folk will be along soon enough..

Hi Jakjo and welcome to the forum
Unfortunately I can't tell you about Lipid Clinics either as I don't live in the UK. However, I can give you some information on looking after yourself which we have written for new members. If you have any more questions, please go ahead and ask as someone will be able to help.

Hi Jakjo,

I'm another one that's never heard of a Lipid clinic  hopefully someone has.

..Welcome when I'm here

Another that didn't know there was a Lipid Clinic although I suspect this will just be part of the Cardiology ward/clinic. I can't say for sure what happens but they'll discuss ways in which to lower your high cholesterol probably using statins and dietary advice, not sure if they'll investigate angina as you don't say that you have it but having a family history of Angina puts you at a greater risk.
