How do I make sure I don't forget to inject? I have done so much self-injecting, that I now operate on autopilot.
  • Reach for kit.
  • Locate meter
  • Find strips.
  • Take lid off, remove one strip, replace lid.
  • Find lancet gear.
  • Get drop of blood and apply.
  • Dum di dum di dum
  • Great! / God, that's awful! / Wow, no wonder I feel strange!
  • Record result,
  • Date it
  • Check available insulin
  • Key in expected carb load.
  • Wait for calculation of bolus.
  • Factor in expected protein.
  • Decide whether or not to over-rule meter advice.
  • Record final dosage decision.
  • Key in basal dose.
  • Confirm, switch off.
  • Find first pen,
  • Find a new needle
  • Attach needle,
  • Prime.
  • Select dose.
  • Inject.
  • Leave needle on.
  • Find second pen.
  • Attach new needle.
  • Prime.
  • Select dose.
  • Inject.
  • Find needle cutter.
  • Cut needle.
  • Remove needle.
  • Put dead needle into plastic cover.
  • Pack away.

Beautiful, isn't it? My problem is that sometimes I think I've done stage 2 and 3 when in fact I stopped at the end of stage 1, The diary is correct, but how do I know I injected until I see all hell break loose in my blood sugar?

Found the NovoPen Echo to be extremely useful for when you have those moments where you doubt yourself if you've injected or not, for your lantus there's devices that fit on the end of pens such as Timesulin.

Just another day lol, I have done exactly the same but I don't have a needle cutter, just pop needle into sharps bin.
