Hey Guys! I'm a type 1 DM and since I travelled last week from home (Brazil) to Germany I'm having serious difficulties managing my blood sugar - I use insulin pump and I had to increase my basal dose from 12,9 to 17,8, even though I'm on the Low Carb diet just like before. Why do you think that is?
Thanks in advance

Hi
I travel frequently with an insulin pump and for long haul flights always do a temporary basal increase of 20-30% for the duration of the journey (including time sitting at the airport which is often several hours). I find this helps to give better glycaemic control.
Also many diabetics find insulin requirements are higher in colder climates, I assume Germany is much colder than Brazil at present?
Have you done a cannula change in case of problems there?
Regards

Agree with @WHM that it could be temperature related, but it could also be due to the stress of travelling too, so many possibilities but I wouldn't worry about the increase in basal as long as its holding your bg levels steady. Best wishes.
