My name is Alan, and I am new to this site which I discovered through the Caresens website when I was printing off my monotoring diary. In 1992 at the age of 46 as a result of Transverse Myelitis I became disabled. I am a Quadriplegic with Spinal Cord Injury at Level C5. I was able to continue working but in June 2006 I was having a lot of problems with a large pressure sore that would not heal. As a result of some symptoms which I recognised a being the same as a colleague of mine had suffered, and blood sugar levels reading 28+++ I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, which I control with diet, insulin and Metformin. I am reasonably careful with my diet and manage to keep to readings 7-8mmols. So far there haven't been any problems. From what I have seen of this site there is a lot of interesting experiences and information to read through. I have not allowed my disabilities to get me down and manage to keep cheerful most of the time. I have found that with both the SCI and the diabetes I have had plenty of support from family, friends and employers. I am still mobile, independent, single (but not for too long I hope) and generally have good health, for which I am thankful.
