Hi Guys,

Just a quick one! Yesterday I experienced a dizzy spell, continued to feel weird tested and was having a hypo ( never felt dizzy during a hypo before!) Then again earlier I felt dizzy again but not having a hypo.

Has anyone had this before? With or without a hypo?

Thanks in advance,

Lucy.

Hi Lucy I haven't experienced a dizzy spell during a hypo, so I'm afraid I can't help you there. Are you on any blood presure medication or have you suffered a problem with your hearing or earache? Funny thing is with another doctors appointment this morning, my doc asked if I felt dizzy when something happened!

Or.............. the other condition that could cause dizzy spells could be something in 9 months time You never know :eh: Best wishes and I hope you start to get your BS up to a better level RRB X

Yes I felt like that a couple of days ago and when I checked my bg was 4.3 so I had one block of husbands Yorkie bar (about 5g carbs) and felt a bit better after about half an hour.

RRB Hi,

I haven't has dizziness before with a hypo but twice in 2 days sorted Hypo out carried on but still feeling a bit sick and nauseous. Test BG before dinner 25.5!!!!!! Never been that high before! So definately fighting something.

No probs with ears and no probs with BP I usually have lowish rather than high. Very unlikely the other

Thanks for yor reply.

Chris,

Thanks nice to know that its not just me!

Guess I'd better check for keytones

Lots of water needed I think!

The fact you felt dizzy with and without going low doesn't look as if its related...... however with diabetes you can never say for sure!

With a bg of 25.5 it does look as if your coming down with something Lucy, sometimes bg can go haywire many days before the symptoms manifest themselves, hope you get your bg down soon and the dizzy spells disappear

I have recently been getting dizzy on standing up, one of my blood pressure tablets have been dropped and I feel great since.

Thanks Mary,

Although I am not on any BP medication. Think I must be just fighting something off. Had lots of water..... Bg slowly coming down and have since had 1 ketones test negative ( after the initial +1 so wasnt too bad)

Hey Lucy!

I felt like that a few months ago and my BG went really high like yours. My insulin made no impact so I had to double the dose. I was really scared, but it was just a cold and within a few days things returned to normal.

Take care

Hi Smidge,

Just tested and got 8!! Gave a large correction dose and have drank lots of water. Ketones now testing negative. Have also just had a snack to go to bed on so dont go hypo in the night. Fingers crossed for tommorow. Will just have to ride with it

Glad you were Ok in the end, just goes to show just a cold can send them really high!!

I also feel alot better as I have a better understanding of illness impact and why. My Dietician gave me a really good explaination the other day. She said that when we get sick our army of white blood cells get together to fight it off ( sugar is released from the liver to give the white blood cells energy to fight! So High sugars.) She also said that sometimes the white blood cells win the battle sometimes they dont. When they don't win then we see the cold/ flu/ sickness bug etc. But when they do win we see the high sugars then nothing!!!

Pretty good explaination as to why sometimes high sugars but then no illness!

I am hoping my army of white blood cells have won

Thanks Smidge and take care,

Lucy xxx

Here's a funny thing my post-exercise light head has gone since I stopped the statins ... I'm on 9 pills every day and tried stopping them because I felt the blood pressure ones were more important and I seem to have lucked out because my head has definitely cleared

Hi there,
Thought I'd add my recent experience to this so you know you are not alone in feeling hypo dizzy. I have been diabetic for 24 years and in the last year or 2 I have noticed that dizzy spells can indicate a hypo. This had not been a hypo symptom until recently. Feeling dizzy doesn't happen at every hypo, but enough to now acknowledge that if I realise I feel like I am on a roundabout (but otherwise feeling absolutely fine) then I need to test and eat something. Every time it has been low (less than BG 4) but with no illness/bug arriving in the days after.

The different types (and sometimes unexpected) hypo symptoms never cease to amaze me when I read forums and talk to other diabetics.
