Do insulin injections improve own production of insulin

After a rather rough period of high BG readings a lot of weight loss and UTI's -after 11 years as T2 I was moved onto Insulin - Humilin I twice daily. It has been a revelation and after 3 months I'm feeling better more energy and BG levels are moving to sensible levels with about 75% TIR - so I'm happy. My question is whether being on insulin creates a virtuous circle where lower BG levels give the pancreas a rest and allows it to reset -possibly improving my own natural insulin production ?
As I've not been able to get a c-peptide test from GP - I'm really not sure what my natural state is.
