Do you believe your readings?

I have a Bayer Contour Next USB and the SD Codefree and I have to say that the Codefree has been fairly consistent with the readings from the Contour, although it can sometimes give an erratic reading (as can all meters). The Codefree is certainly good enough for observing trends and working out how certain foods affect you, but for 'important' measurements, the Contour Next probably more reliable. More expensive to run though :-(

ISO guidelines state that blood glucose meters should provide results which fall between the upper and lower error bounds, given in the table below, 95% of the time:

Within ± 0.83 mmol/L of laboratory results at concentrations of under 4.2 mmol/L
Within ± 20% of laboratory results at concentrations of 4.2 mmol/L or more

Before every reading I wash my hands with soap and water and swab the area with rubbing alcohol. I assumed everyone would do this. Concerned about infection as well as contaminating the sample.

I was specifically told not to use soap or alcohols rubs before testing, hot water only. Soap contains glycerin which is a sugar and alcohol residue skew readings for other reasons.
