I think you need to actually speak to your Doctor and explain things directly to him/her.

Did a doctor tell you this or just a receptionist? If it was a receptionist phone the surgery and ask them to get a doctor to phone you and explain it all to the doctor. I really would be appalled to think a doctor would expect a Type 1 diabetic to go without insulin or test strips for a month.

They have to override the computer if it shows you are over ordering or thinks you are, even if you aren't. In our practice that is a GPs job, not a receptionist. Speak to your actual Doctor on Monday.

Doctors receptionists are a very special breed. They spent all those year in medical school just to answer the phone and make appointments. No wonder they crack and give advice now and again :lol:

Go there in person and explain you need an urgent appointment. Otherwise a drop in centre or A and E. Contact PALS and see if they will help.

If the surgery is not too far away, it would be worth going there in person tomorrow and waiting whilst they sort it out.

You might mention to the receptionist that your chances of survival without insulin are slim.

Hope you get this sorted out - it's quite outrageous.

Perhaps a letter to the practice manager? Some Doctors receptionists are simply impossible, other like mine, are very kind (thankfully). I hope you get your script, what a deplorable situation to be left in. A & E may be another point of call? Good luck.

This is dreadful. If actually visiting the surgery doesn't resolve things or you can't get there I would phone NHS direct 0845 4647 and explain the situation to them. Tell them clearly you are a Type 1 diabetic who is about to run out of insulin and what you have done to try and resolve things. Ask them what you should do. If they suggest you attend an A&E department I would go. When there explain to them why you are having to take up their time. I read somewhere on the forum they will then send your practice the bill. How many days insulin supply do you have left?

How is it that receptionists suddenly start refusing to give appointments? I can't see how they can be allowed to do that. :shock:

The pharmacist who dispenses your insulin should be able to give you some so tomorrow do that. The pharmacist wont mind, they know that diabetics need insulin and will not want you to be without it.

I totally agree with xyzzy. Go to A & E. Probably your doctors would be shocked to hear of this situation but someimes it is easier just to forget about complaints and a mental note is made and then forgotten concerning having a word wih the receptionist etc.

I went through a period of being refused prescriptions as did my husband , merely because one particular Gp kept forgetting to update review dates and one particular receptionost couldn't be bothered going through the procedure she had been insructed to follow rather han leave patients wihout their medication.
When we we both made individual complaints to Practice Nurses we were advised to enter into a charade whereby we would ask to speak to the nurse on some other pretext - and she would then issue the meds. Anything rather than tackle the miscreant.

A visit to A & E with financial consequences would ensure that such a thing never happens again. Its appalling!
