Doctor's Advice

Yes I agree with you. Also if you don't tell them what you at doing they will assume their higher carb recommendations are working for you...and then expect that approach to work for others. I believe we should tell them what we are doing for our own sakes and for others too. I try to tell my HCP's what I am doing, but tbh they aren't that interested, but I do my best, hopefully they will catch on one day.

I've been lucky with my DN. I was honest and said I was doing Atkins/Dukan/LCHF at the times I was, and I got full support. My GP was even interested in my experience with Dukan and asked how I felt it was working?

Luckily our practice works with you rather than dictates - there is always discussion around ideas. I had no problem getting test strips prescribed, or moisturising cream etc. They key for me is being able to go back with the proof it's working - as long as it does then it's all good.

I'm in a strange situation regarding my doctor - my GP is supposed to be the surgery's diabetes 'expert' and he hates the idea of low carbing - but had to admit that it has worked for me and because he was wrong he now refuses to talk about it. Its like, for him, I don't have diabetes any more.

However, my diabetes nurse and the village pharmacist think its amazing and have asked me to give another bit of a talk to a select group of type 2s about low carbing and maybe starting 'a group'. I did one of these talks back in June and didn't get any feedback until just recently a random woman my BF was chatting to while walking their dogs together mentioned that she'd been to this talk at the pharmacy where this 'wonder woman' had cured her diabetes by only eating meat, cheese and eggs (I never said that!) but that low carbing, while a nice idea, was beyond her. Makes me wonder if I'd be wasting my time doing another one - I do NOT enjoy talking in public!
