Oh yes, I do expect that happening to me too...but since I'm still on my 40's and I was last measured 6 months ago, there is hardly going to be any drastic changes...head is still on...just....As I have aged I have lost almost two inches from my height. Happens to some of us.
Now...are you being truly honest...'victory sign' or do you possibly turn your hand other way round....Use that anger and frustration at not being listened to or being treated like a child to keep going on days when it is tough. Whenever I pass my GP surgery on a walk I mentally give a victory sign because I know I have proved both the doctor I last saw and the DN wrong.
Hi @Finsky. I understand your anger with doc. I am sure, as phoenix55 mentioned, you can use that to stay motivated to keep ahead of the game and show them you are able to prove them wrong. I do that all of the time. My avatar sort of sums up my aporoach to life's challenges. Sure you can get ahead of them. Any praise for your efforts won't be forthcoming from the surgery, but you can get that here.Oh yes, I do expect that happening to me too...but since I'm still on my 40's and I was last measured 6 months ago, there is hardly going to be any drastic changes...head is still on...just....
Him questioning my height was down to him not believing his BMI calculation results..(another story of my life)...but he trusted the numbers rather than questioning the accuracy of the BMI...(I won't start that rant....biting my fingers....no more typing....)
BTW...I like your avatar...Pippi longstocking character is one of my favourite...spent many happy hours reading her stories..
Thank you...yes...I am very much like 'Pippi' too...but every now and then my inner Victor Meldrew will take over...and this forum seem to be like calming balm for those moments.. Those grumpy moments must be sign of getting some new 'growth rings' into my tree, maturing less gracefully..Hi @Finsky. I understand your anger with doc. Cheers, Pippi.
Interesting idea if a bit confrontational. Maybe just ask if you could record the conversation. The way my memory works I'd probably leave my phone in the car or worse still forget how to make it record. LOLHere's a little tip I use when I see my doctor or nurse and all of a sudden they listen and don't give you any bs.put your phone on record put it on the desk so they can see it and tell them it's recording what's being explained to you as you can't remember everything and you don't want to forget anything.also in future appointments they can't say I never said that because you can play it back and say yes you did works a treat.
Yes lets hope there are !!I've been to see 'dear' doctor today in hospital..diabetic review...'banging my head on wall'...
I really don't know if I should laugh, cry or scream with frustration. Did go through all the usual 'blah blah'...then to discussed the blood test results...'blah blah'. And when I mentioned that only way to keep my blood sugar levels in check (as my medication on its own is not up to it) I have started to do fasting..14:10 seem to agree with me and also lowering my carb intake.
WELL...he wasn't impressed..."WHY DO YOU DO THAT!" His eyes glazed over when I tried to explain.. obviously it wasn't interesting enough. And his response was "I do not blame you for your high reading, but we as medical profession are to blame for not giving you right medication". He didn't get it that the whole point is taking LESS medication...'banging my head on the wall again'....he did managed to mention that he is not in business making profit by prescribing medicines, that NHS cannot afford it..(hmm...)
Anyhow...in the end I did agree to change to some new medication...didn't agree to statins, AGAIN...didn't agree stopping my eating regime which has improved things a lot.
In positive note, he was a doctor who wasn't shy saying things bluntly..so I could answer back to him with same manner and neither of us did take offence of each other..and he didn't seem to be in hurry neither!! But other than that I feel like I did waste nice sunny day..
Time will tell what effect these new to me medicines have.
BTW...sorry about ranting....I just had to get this off from my chest and already feel better about it...shame that so often I have to talk about doctors in such a negative manner...there must be some good ones out there...somewhere...
(High carbs certainly affect me badly...no-one told me to avoid at the GPs...now I am! In fact Nurse told me to eat them...now I am on no more than wholemeal pasta or sweet potatoes only 1/2 a cup at any meal, USA sized cup -so it's a small amount. The Diet sheet they hand out would make every Diabetic blood test results much worse!!!Every appointment at my endo I get my height measured, I've been five seven forever!
My dsn, has to give me my diabetic review, and I do sit there trying not to laugh, as she goes through the motions. You can sometimes even think that she gets what I am about and tries to understand my condition, she shakes her head and I smile!
And, yes, I have gone through this a few times now! Do I think she really understands not eating so called healthy food and being really healthy without them?
No, not really!
What!?...didn't know what test cartridges are...unbelievable! I'm glad you have now 'very nice' consultant.I don't go to my GP regarding my Type 1 - When i joined the surgery they refused to prescribe me a test cartridge for my accucheck machine, because they didn't know what it was and therefore I must not need it. I had to go into the surgery for a meeting with the "diabetes" nurse and show her what i needed and why. My consultant is very nice - I just had to change to a new one as the one i'd seen for the past 25 years has retired - but he seems very nice and listens and understands
Hi Lonnie. My GP practice had a similar system in place, where the Practice nurse was trained as a Diabetes Certified Nurse (DCN) and was qualified to perform the usual basic tasks such take bloods, inspect feet , urine checks etc, She was not able to change or issue scrips, but could refer any mutual decision to the GP offline, and the GP would make the changes and send the scrip to the receptionist or pharmacy. This works for most day to day mangement issues such as diet etc, and I could always then book a follow up GP appointment if necessary. Now the DCN has left the practice, i get referred to the County specialist nurse who can issue scrips and update records etc, but I now see my GP for annual appraisal as well. This allows my GP to concentrate more on my other health issues. This is my first post to forum and I wondered if anyone else has had a letter from the GP practice which was posted in Radstock when I live in Derbyshire about my annual diabetic review, This states that because I am managing my diabetes so well I will not be booked in to see a diabetic doctor as well as the practice nurse which as been the norm for a number of years What do the GPs do with their time and what sort of increase have the practice nurses received to take over the duties of the GP ie giving out prescriptions and managing my illness?
