Does anyone self fund?

I used to self fund, fully funded now though.
 
Can I ask you how much you paid for your insulin pump please and did they take the VAT off?

No VAT is paid on the pump or supplies.
Pump prices vary from company to company. So just ring up the pump company who's pump you want and ask how much it costs. Do remember though the cost of batteries and caps etc.

If you want to buy a dif pump to what you have then be warned the PCT might not be inclined to pay for consumables.

Cheapest pump on the market is about £2,000 up to almost 3 grand for the most expensive
 
Thanks. Last time they knocked off £225, can't remember why, assuming it was the VAT. I'm swapping hospitals because I am not happy with the care at Warwick. I want to go to Coventry and then when this pump runs out, hopefully I will be given a choice!
 
Hi I self fund at the moment I purchase an omnipod it's fab as it's tubeless the set up cost was ok but the consumables are £250 a month my consultant agreed with this when I told him what I was doing but the have since become awkward as my PCT aren't too keen so have had to purchase 2 months consumables until they can manage to get me to see a consultant who deals with pumps.My experience self funding was fab as I felt like I had more control but I only wish that the NHS would be a bit more helpful now.

I suspect the reason your PCT wont play ball is due to the cost of the omnipod. It cost's something like £4,000 more over a 4 year period compared to a tubed pump.
How did you get hold of the pump in the first place? Surely if your consultant agreed you needed to pump he should have told your PCT your required funding and they should have by law provided funding for a pump.
