Does it get easier? Will he be ok?

Hi,

He will be more than OK and he won't blame you in the future. I wasn't diagnosed when I was little but in a way I wish I was. Changing your life style at 26 was quite difficult.

I don't miss out on anything so with the right knowledge I don't see why your boy should miss out on things.

Hopefully someone will come along and advise you of their experience.

So sorry to hear of Oscar being type 1, but honestly it will get better. I know because my darling grandaughter was diagnosed at 2 1/2 seriously seriouslt ill and it ripped my heart out, because I said to myself why didn't I pick it up, why didn't I see what what going on, I di feel very guilty because I have type 1 as well. She is going from strenght to strenght and has hardly moaned at all about the injections or the finger pricking and she just gets on with being a lively and inquisitive child, she will be strating school in September, but has been going to a nursery and the staff were shown how to give injections and how to look after a diabetic child.

I'm sure Oscar will grow up into a lovely person, who you will be very proud of. Kids are very tough and just get on with things, its the grown up's that hurt the most. Take care

Now i have absolutely no experience, I am a newbie, I was diagnosed yesterday with this. I'm 18 so I guess it's not too hard to adapt to change but I have my certain ways with food and now I have a lot of learning to do. But kids learn and pick up on things a lot easier than stubborn adults! I was diagnosed with under active thyroid when I was younger and I learnt to accept it, I as a child and did what I was told. I almost wish this had happened to me when I was younger too, I'd be in control of this by now.

Can't blame yourself at all, iv had both parents apologise to me and its not there fault!!

My son James was diagnosed just before his 3rd birthday too he is now 16 and my pride and joy as I waited a long time to have him after having 5 miscarriages. Been through many ups and downs but come out fighting and learning all the time. He is very mature about it, but don't get me wrong he is no angel sometimes and tests me to my limits. He has not missed out on anything, has got involved in the local football team since he was 5 and still playing, been abroad on holiday, school trips etc. you just have to plan ahead a bit more that's all.

Doing revision for GCSE's at moment, BG's not good when stressed but that's just another hurdle to get over

You are not alone and you can ask anything on here even if YOU think it is a stupid question there is always and answer.

I was diagnosed when i was 5, as soon as i started doing the injections for myself my diabetes just became another part of my life. I control it, it doesnt control me!

When i was a kid i kept all my diabetes stuff in a 'bum bag'.... not sure if thats the right name for it, one of those bags that attaches around the waist.... make it cool with favourite stickers!
