Does this happen to anyone else?

Just over a year diagnosed now. And constantly unwell. My A1c is in range, I'm managing well, no diabetic complications. But I pick up every bug on earth, everyone gets a cough, mine turns into pneumonia, I get stomach flu ALl the time, I always catch colds, sore throats... im just generally always unwell. Does this disease weaken our immune systems, does this happen to anyone else? Why is it hard to manage insulin when I have a cold?

Didn't happen to me at all.
At only a year in, it could simply be coincidence. In my 46 years of life, of which 7 with diabetes, I've had years where I never caught anything and years where I kept getting sniffles, colds and flu.
 
Yep. That was me. I got every cold and bug going and it alwas lasted for weeks. Truly exhausting. Until I started taking vitamin d. Barely had a cold in 2 years and felt so much better overall. I can't be sure it's the vitamin d but I'm going to keep taking it.

I have had the flu jab for years and years .

Its just bad luck on your part i think.......

I'm probably heathier now than BD, but, I have lost 5ish stone in weight, exercise regularly and take a couple of supplements (correlation or causation I don't know), watch now I'm going to pick up every bug going for tempting fate
 
Like @Tony337 diabetes has not affected my immune system for 20 years. For example, when I caught covid, it was just a sniffle and I was clear within a few days whereas my non-diabetic, completely healthy partner was laid up in bed with it for 3 days and still felt under the weather for a couple of weeks.
Some of us have stronger immune systems than others regardless of diabetes.
 
Strange isn't it. Covid has passed through our household several times now. Each time either me or my wife and one of the two children come down with it. Always me and the 9 year old or my wife and the 5 year old.
 
It does seem that life can be a lottery , we can look after ourselves, and it's best too no doubt but it can go wrong but I don't think your ailments are in my experience anyway anything to do with your diabetes if you are otherwise in good health .
 
I have been ill now with one thing or another virtually continually for well over a month, after many years of being very fit and well. Far fitter than I was pre diagnosis. However, the constant illness has made managing the disease very very hard. Consequently I think it becomes a bit of a vicious circle. I’ve gone from over 90% in range with nothing much over 10 to a battle to keep it under 10 with a TIR of 60%. The crowning glory to all this is a stubborn UTI (my first in 64 years) that I am sure has enjoyed feeding on the excess glucose.
