My husband was diagnosed with probably steroid induced T2 just over a year ago This week he went for the result of his latest blood test and the DN was really pleased with him. His BG level was 5.6 cholesterol 4.3 and no problems with his kidneys and liver. His blood pressure is good and his weight is to but he was never overweight . She put on his record... Good diabetes control... his level at his first 3 month blood test after diagnosis was 7 he was diagnosed at 7.3 and 7.2 at two blood tests. He takes Metformin tablets with his food twice a day... The DN has never told him what to eat but just said to make sure he eats something before he drives
His diet is still much the same as it always was except he has stopped all sugar food and does lower carbs cutting out rice and pasta and much less bread...he was a real sandwich addict... he has smaller portions of new potatoes a couple of times a week and eats most vegetables meat and dairy is about the same as always He has porridge and a slice of Bergen toast every day for breakfast he doesn't like eggs and he won't have a cooked breakfast The only fruit he likes is bananas and pears so has a small one of these on alternate days with plain Greek yogurt as dessert with his evening meal. He is almost 83 and says he is to old now to stop all the things he has eaten all his life
He has no other medical problems except Polymyalgia for which he took the steroids but over the last couple of years on the advice of his doctor he had been able to reduce them to a very low dose The last time he saw the doctor she told him she wanted him to come off them altogether as they can cause all kinds of problems that he really does not want he has now been off them over a month and so far so good. He is still active and does a lot of gardening so gets all the exercise he needs

Great news. So glad he is managing his BG and getting off the steriods; long term they are not good for you. Sounds like things are going well and, as he rightly says, at 83 no point in stopping all the things he likes, just cutting down and eating less and better. Hope he is getting lots of veg, they will be really good for him.

Thank you yes we both eat plenty of vegetables we always have and do enjoy them
