Just adding a link to a new study on research into the protein zonulin (the protein involved in intestinal permeability) originally discovered by Dr Fasano's group. Research finds new link between zonulin and two other inflammatory bowel conditions - non coeliac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) and IBS:
If you suffer from any disease, especially autoimmune disease, it's worthwhile using a search engine to search for your disease "and gluten".
I've read recently that two diseases I've been diagnosed with in my lifetime (endometriosis many years ago and interstitial lung disease in 2009) may be autoimmune in origin. So, did a search for both and sure enough, there are studies in the PubMed database indicating that a gluten free diet may be helpful for both diseases!
