I am the (worried) wife whose husband has been told he has T2. He has lost well over 1.5 stone in 3 weeks - which in my opinion he couldn't afford to lose because he wasn't overweight in the first place. So now I am at a loss what to feed him. He doesn't need to go on a diet but all the information seems to point at 'losing weight' to get the blood sugars down. His blood sugars haven't come down even though he is on medication. Does anyone else seem to loss weight? This is all new to us and there is so much confusing information out there!

Hi and welcome, that is a lot to lose in such a short time, is the GP investigating the cause?

Do you know the results of his HbA1c? It would be handy to know.

Tagging @daisy1 for the welcome pack.

Stick around here and you will get loads of advice. And try not to worry so much, you have found the best place here.

Hello and welcome,

Has your husband had the tests to rule out Type 1? Sudden and severe weight loss like that is normally associated with Type 1 diabetes rather than type 2, although it is not unknown. The tests are the C-Peptide and GAD tests. I don't know how old your husband is, but T1 can occur at any age, not just in youngsters.

Not everyone diagnosed with T2 is overweight. There are many slim/thin people on this forum that can testify to that.

Can you tell us which medication he is on, as this is important to know to avoid inappropriate answers.

Being a 'man' he seems to have gone into denial so I struggle to get info out of him, but yes the doc did say he may be border line T1. He is on Gliclazide tabs and they have just been increased to double dose. He is also booked in for a scan (??) so we are worried what that is about. Doc says its normal for people of his age (63) to rule out any other niggles!

Can you make sure you go with him to his appointments? Different types of Diabetes are treated differently.

Anything else going on - extreme thirst? frequent urination? more tired than usual?
