Hi All

I wonder if someone can possibly help me I am becoming very disillusioned. My problem is that I seem to really struggle to draw enough blood to get a reading on my meter, I have tried difference lancet devices and different lancets and different meters. I am currently using an Owen Mumford 23g lancet and it still sometimes takes 4 or more attempt to get enough blood. I have tried manually inserting the lancet but it does not make much difference, I have tried finger back of my hands and arms I still struggle. I really want to track my glucose but I am running out of patience, can anyone please HELP!!!!
Thanks
Helen

hi

what a pain when i think how many tests we do in a day.

make sure ur hands are warm that always helps, we have a great finger pricker at the moment came with the accu chek meter its called a multi clix and seems to be more pain free than others we have tried dylan likes it anyway. it has a dial for lowering the needle like most so put it on higher numbers too.

i know some people prick their finger wait 5 secs or so shake their hand then give a gentle squeeze and they get more blood that way.

hope u find a way to suit u soon

I also use the multiclix with my accu check meter I find it easy to use and I prick the side of my thumb level with the nail for preference also side of fingers .If you prick and wait a second or so the blood will come but your hands do need to be warm I use level 2 and this is usually painless if you have quite thick skin you may need a higher level. Hope this helps.

Helen,

Are you using the side of the fingers as instructed? The reason why I ask is that some people mistakenly use the fingertips to draw blood which can be problematic as the skin is much harder and difficult to draw blood.

I use a Freestyle Mini meter. The strips for this meter need only the tiniest spot of blood, and if by chance I get Too little, they allow for "top ups", which many strips don't.
