Oky guys here is a puzzle that I think you guys will have the answer to .
The past few months have been hell in regards to my health my eyes are a real worry and I am battling Drs to get them to take it serious ..
However diagnosed in May ish and levels have come right down ( success you would think ) this weekend I have just felt unwell ( flu like ) and on Friday I took a water sample into my GP and asked if they would just check it.
Okay on comes Monday when I awoke with on hell of a pain in my tummy it got worse and my husband took me to the walk in centre on route we got a call asking me to take another morning sample in today as the one they had showed some protein and small keytones ?
Well the wlk in centre sent me to hospital suspected appendix they also took water and said there was some keytones and protein but only slight.
When I got to hospital they did the following bloods for white cell count and water tests
Now they said there was no protein showing on theirs ?
I have a small amount of keytones ?
They kept me overnight because of the tummy pain but they discharged me today .


I am just so fed up with this they said it was nothing at all to worry about but here is my dilemma I have never had even on diagnosis any keytones ?
The hospital didn't seem concerned at all in fact just the opposite they said it was nothing to worry about.
Please help this worry with my eyes is enough without more I just feel so rough but the hospital say its nothing to do with the keytones xxx
 
Hi Sharon, you don't say what your concern is about your eyes. Ketones are only a problem if you have high ketones teamed with high blood sugar.
 
Thank you Login trust me you helped calm me last night.
My eye problems have been going on for months and I am in a battle with Drs who seem to think its all Anxiety ( I admit I have Anxiety but this is not the root cause ) .
To be honest I don't know what I would do if one of the members on here wasn't supporting me in trying to prove to the medical experts that this isn't all in my head.
Well I was diagnosed in May ish and at the time my Hbc1 was 74 I had a second test three months later and it was down to 35 then I had another one done last week and it's 34 ..
Around the time of diagnosis I noticed my pupils had gone really small and I also lost my sense of taste the GP didn't seem concerned and I kept going back until eventually one decided to send me for an MRI well that came back that they had picked up a fluid sac and they did another one with contrast and that was reported as normal .
My vison throughout got worse and still is it started with odd vison things just look odd and things like my depth perception , blurry vision , now I have a colour contacts between my eyes and over the last few weeks eye pain and flashing or falling feathers out of the corner of my eyes .
I have been to the eye casuality again and again and they just keep looking at the back of my eyes and saying they look fine .
They did a electrodiagnostic test.
I know it's sounds crazy but it's like I can feel my eyes trying to focus and my pupils are just tiny.
Then Monday I woke up feeling so unwell with tummy pain and flu like symtoms I was admitted to hospital and at the walk in centre they said I had protein and keytones in my sample but when I got to hospital ward there were no protein in my water just these ketones ?
I am deaf so my eyes are my ears to the world and I am so very scared.
The Drs said my bloods were fine so they went me home saying they thought it was a rumbling appendix .
So that's pretty mush the situation with my eyes and I feel like I am up against a brick wall be because the Drs don't seem to be able to find the cause but I know what's happening and I know it's not right.

Main problem for diabetics with eyes is damage to the blood vessel in the back of the eye.
The good news is that you don't seem to have that because they have looked into your eyes and checked.

So you may have to look beyond diabetes for the cause of your problems.
I haven't heard of diabetics losing a sense of taste, or suffering from small pupils, so again this is not an obvious diabetic problem.

Have you seen someone who specialises in loss of sense of taste, and eye problems?

It may be that the pains in your abdomen are not related to your taste and vision problems.

Whatever, keep on pushing your medical team to find out what is going on.

Hi @Sharon Anne - you've done exceptionally well in bringing down your HbA1c from 74 to 34 in 6 months However this drastic fall in glucose level could be the cause of your eye problems. My eyesight went wacky for some time after I was first diagnosed with type 1 - objects going in and out of focus, seeing floaters and the light level appear to get brighter and darker when it was constant. My diabetic consultant told me that rapidly changing blood sugars were the cause and that once they had got used to a lower sugar environment my eyesight would return to normal - which it did over several months.

The amount of glucose concentration in your eyes also affects the shape of the eyeball - I was told that it would be pointless going for an eye test for glasses until my glucose levels had stabilised. It could be that the pain you are feeling in your eyes is down to your contacts no longer fitting as well as they did as your eyeballs have changed shape.

Have you ever watched 'The Simpsons' and seen what happens to Barts' pupils when he eats a lot of sugar:



Your lack of sugar in comparison to what it was may be the reason your pupils are looking small.

Sharon - I am only relating my experiences and what I have been told by my consultant but they do seem to compare closely to the symptoms you are experiencing and my eyesight is now back to normal so I suspect your will be too in time

BUT - keep your doctor informed of any changes/concerns and make sure you get all the diabetic checks for retinopathy etc.

Your HbA1c results are to be applauded, well done. I wish I could help you with your concerns but what logindetails says is very interesting and I love the cartoon. I hope you get a resolution, it may just be that you need to see someone who knows what they're talking about. All the best. Graham
