DVLA and Byetta

Question for all you byetta users .......... what was your experience with the DVLA?

I have been waiting for ages for them to decide what was going to happen with me, contacted them about a fortnight ago and was told that sum1 would send me a letter telling me whether I get to keep my licence or whether it would be a temp licence .......... I'm still waiting, and everytine I phone I get told the same thing, one of the medical team are dealing with and not to worry as under section 88 I am entitled to drive ........ I still dunno what that is lol.

Have any of you had any probs? And what was the outcome of you informing DVLA ie temp or full licence ???

Hi Leona

When I contacted the DVLA re my going onto Byetta I had to send them my original driving licent and a passport photo. I was issued, in about 3 weeks, with a 3 year driving licence, one of the new plastic one with my photo on.

Hi Leona and Pauline,
According to the DVLA website, they only need to be informed if you are on Byetta and have a Group 2 (LGV or PCV) licence. They are not interested if you hold a Group 1 (cars and motorcycles) licence. In their own words:
"Their use (i.e exenatides and gliptins) currently carries no specific driving restrictions for Group 1 (car or motorcycle) licences."

Thats what I thought too .... but not what the DVLA have told me. I had foned to tell them I was on Insulin and was informed that I wouold get a temp licence .... low and behold I was allergic to the stuff so before the temp one was issued I called them up to tell them that I was no longer on it and was tablets only (as for a period I was) ...... this was ok and they told me to just keep my full licence and ignore all the paperwork for the temp, then I contacted them to inform them of the Byetta and they have said they are not sure as to what will happen and that I have to wait ..... just been waiting a while now to hear back and everytime I call they keep telling me I will get a letter soon .......... just wondered if anyone else had any probs .... I only have a normal licence!!!!

Typical of DVLA ..... left and right hand comes to mind lol

I`m an ex Class One driver, because i am now on insulin. But prior to going on to insulin, i was on oral medication and Byetta. My specialist advised me that this would not affect my licence because it`s not insulin, and he stipulated this fact most strongly.so, don`t worry, you should still hold on to your licence,and long may it continue.
I`ve just had my licence back from DVLA, reduced to 3 years because i am now on insulin, so no more driving 44 tonners forme then.
Yes i was very angry about this, because it was a job i loved, but have now come to terms with it, and now have another position in the company i work for.
But don`t you worry, your licence should be fine. All you have to do, unless they`ve moved the goal posts again, is to Stipulate to DVLA that Byetta IS NOT insulin, and their so called experts should realise this.
Read my posting `Driving me nuts` in General Chat section, and another contributer in `Soapbox` section about the effects of losing PSV/LGV licence. It`s very frustrating for people like us.
