DVLA and the post office

I have been going through a whole lot of palava with the post office and DVLA recently.

Last year I had 2 seizures but had not informed DVLA because I wanted to pass my driving test so badly. When I had done I went to my diabetic check up at the hospital. The consultant there told me to stop driving and get onto the DVLA to let them know.

I had been so stupid that it was only recently that I decided to inform them. I have not had any seizures for a whole year and have recently started pump therapy. But here's where it went wrong:

I sent my forms via post and weeks later I had a letter back saying I hadn't completed it so had to do that and sent it off again. A month later they said that they had not heard from and want me to re-do the form AGAIN!!! I had to call the DVLA to double check it had been sent and they still had nothing. The lady advised me to use track and trace. I paid for my track and trace and the lady at the post office said to me to check online to see where my letter is.

This was back in April and everytime I checked it kept saying it was still at the post office. I complained twice and got rude service from my local post office that I wanted to give up. It has been 2 months and it's only today that I received the letter from DVLA saying I can keep my license

The moral of the story is: Listen to your consultant and get everything sorted ASAP!!!

I would love to know if anyone else has had similar problems!

Yes definitely listen to your consultant, had you had an accident your insurance would be void and you'd be in a whole heap of trouble with the Police.

The Post Office can be hit & miss and I've had letters go astray, usually when they are very important I'll send them by recorded delivery and not had any problems to date.

Well done on passing your driving test btw

Thank you

My pleasure.

The DVLA comes under a lot of criticism but I've found them to be OK, when I renewed my licence a few months back I had to wait around 6 weeks before I got my licence back, I contacted them in this time and they said they were conducting some checks, 2 days later I got a letter from them to say much the same and I wasn't to worry as I'd still be able to drive even when my old licence had expired, when you get a 3 year licence it makes it all worth the while

I think DVLA have been good and I don't really blame them for having to send me forms back and forth but it's the post office that took the mick and I'm surprised how rude they were when I told them the situation of why It kept saying that my form was still based with them when I typed in the barcode on the website. They had that look of 'don't you dare' which upset me because no one should be treated like that :/

Lol. My local post office in the village I used to live was a little like that..
I used to put all the relevant documents folded in half, together with the cash in an envelope to take to the post office to tax my car.
This one occasion I was served by the guy who managed the PO & was barracked for not unfolding the documents for inspection.

Thanks to databases, I do it online now...

yjays typical of the post office,

By contrast my local PO village shop combo where I live now has been great to me.. Though the guy that runs it is not so popular with other villagers. But that seems to centre round a "boundary issue".? Lol

The manager opened up the PO section out of hours after a car radiator was left there when neither me or my neighbours were home on one occasion.. & been a "lifesaver" regarding other postal stuff too..! I can't fault my postie either...!
