We have just booked a trip to Sri Lanka.
I was only diagnosed type 1 last year and travelled to Australia with no problems so thought nothing of my husbands suggestion to go to Asia.
However now it is booked I have started to worry about food.
Anyone been and can recommend good diet, foods and type of places to eat whilst we are there?
Any help and tips greatly appreciated

Hi Lynne - I absolutely loved almost every aspect of Sri Lanka, although that was before I was diagnosed.
I'm assuming you're going to an hotel with some form of meal plan included? When I went we were on a bed, breakfast and one main meal basis (lunch or dinner, as we liked, on a day to day basis - always dinner for us), because we felt we just couldn't get through all that food and drink.
At mealtimes, there were always chefs in evidence around the self service areas (we could choose self-service or waited-on tables), who would explain what was in any of the displayed options. There was also always a cooked to order options for quick things, and always for eggs and such at brekkers.
It could be useful to understand what sort of way of eating you are currently following and whether or not you take meds, and what. Your posts suggests T1, but your profile says LADA, and some LADA in the early days, manage on oral meds; hence the query.
Hi, thank you so much for your reply.
I am on 3 injections of Apidra rapid and 1 insulatard at bedtime.
I follow quite a strict diet, low carbs and plenty of fresh stuff. I have never been a big fan of spicy foods including curry so very much hoping I can eat eggs, fish and fruit and veg whilst we are away.
We will be travelling around but staying in good hotels as we go x

To be honest, Lynne, I do like spicy foods, so we're a bit different there, however, many of the local dishes serves were very subtle and flavourful, rather than hot curries. If your hotels offer a buffet option, I would urge you to maybe as well as your chosen options, you take a side plate and just have a taster of the local stuff. You might be very surprised.
Enjoy your trip, I'm a bit envious, and actually looked back over my photos last night and reminisced with myself.
