Hi all,
Tomorrow will be my first day back at work since being diagnosed with Type 1 last Monday. I'm trying to practice food preparation to make sure I'm eating the right things instead of grabbing convenience for lunch. Do you have any meal/snack recommendations that will be easy for me to prep in advance and to reheat in work? Thanks

What sort of thing would you usually have?

Hi @HoneyBea . Hard to make suggestions on what you should eat, it depends on what you enjoy.
Obviously you shouldn't be going for cakes, biscuits and any sugary/ junk food, but I'm guessing you probably know this.
Tomorrow I'll be having 2small slice's brown bread with chicken. Cucumber, red pepper and tomato on the side. Follow up with blueberries and strawberries. Around 40g carbs which I'm happy with.
One thing I would advise though is to keep your chosen hypo treatment close to hand. You may be quite surprised how work will affect your sugars.
Sorry can't help more but take care, check sugars regularly and have a nice day.

Salad is always a good choice! Don't have to inject as much to reduces the chance of injecting too much/less. Oh....and it's healthy too

Thanks @therower! I'm aiming for about 40g carbs too.. I'm not fussy with foods, enjoy anything healthy really just curious to find out what carbs people tend to incorporate into their meals. I'm used to quite a lot of carbs to get me through the day so tomorrow will be a test to see how it goes. Also, I'm due to see the diabetic nurse on Wednesday so I'll be asking if, in time, I fancy a carb loaded meal, I can match my insulin to the carbs rather than the carbs to the insulin as I'm on a standard dose at the moment. I'm sure it'll all become clear in time .. I hope

@HoneyBea . It's still early days for you, try not to worry about it at the moment. In time I would suggest you look to do a carb counting course.
I did Dafne which was great even after I'd been T1 for 20yrs+.
I believe there's an online version available now called Bertie I believe. I'm sure if you ask someone here will be able to advise more.

A sandwich and a piece of fruit, tuna pasta with some chopped up salad ingredients, something hot you could go for soup and a small roll if you need to make up the carbs to get to 40g.

Hope your first day back goes well @HoneyBea

it really does depend on facilities , time allowed for eating etc etc.

a tin of batchelors soup ( normally around 28-30 carb )
plus a couple of Jacobs cream crackers will be about 40 carb

alternatively , a sandwich made at home on wholemeal bread ( tuna mayo , egg , ham , beef )
plus an apple will be around the 40 carb mark

you could make a massive salad at home with lettuce , tomato , cucumber , spring onion , avocado , chunks of chicken ,steamed green beans , a few olives, green pepper , and an oil and vinegar dressing for around 12-18 carbs -- plus a slice of buttered wholemeal bread to make your approx. 40 carb

I've got leftover veggie cottage pie and veg for tomorrow, 30g.
A roll and soup would be about 40g.
Sandwich is about or under 40g depending on the type of bread.
Very small jacket potato.
If eating out, Itsu sushi mini rolls are 42g I think.
Pret has the carb counts on.

I have been trying to reduced excess carb in my diet. My lovely hubby has batch cooked several really tasty low carb soups (spicey mulligatawny soup is a really good) and I have stacked then with leftover roast chicken. They are very filling and about 15g carb. With the extra chicken, I can manage without a slice of bread. My freezer is full of these soups, they are nutritous and very convient to take to work and reheat. They keep me on the straight and narrow regarding a lower carb intake and I feel full enough that I can say no the the endless supply of office cakes and biscuits.
