Just looking for a bit of advice or any helpful tips. I recently spent 3 months living in a hotel in the Middle East and completely fell off the wagon (still haven’t got the will power to get back on it). I’m going to be doing a lot more traveling over the next few months so I wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to how they cope with extended periods away from home. I’m absolutely dreading my next HbaC1 because I know it’s going to be awful.
I know it is hard and have been there and I assume that you aware of what types food gives you trouble. The first thing I would do is find out what will be the next hotel that I am staying at and become familiar food they serve in their restaurant before you go. Develop a plan ahead of time of what things you need substitute when you order. When you eat out in other restaurants I would ask the waiter describe things that you want to order and modify the dish. If you are completely baffled ask to talk the chef and describe your situation. Most chefs would be glad to work with you. Since you will be staying at hotel for extended time, talk with the hotel manager there and talk to him or her about your situation and have them introduce to the chef there and work a strategy. I would try to familiarize and understand the types of food I would be eating ahead of time and develop a plan.
Finally I would make sure that I regularly test my blood sugars, so if a problem arises I can immediately make corrections. Ihopw this helps .......

That could work but the potential problem is that at buffet you may not have control how the food is cooked. Let us just say our arch nemesis sugar is everything and sometimes we don't even know it. Good suggestion though we just need to ask questions.
