End of my sex-life?

Hi all. I don't post often in here but I do enjoy browsing the forum and reading the advice and opinions on offer.

Thing is, I've just got in from a weekend away and have found a letter from my Doctor saying that they have "been instructed by the PCT that we must rigidly enforce the recommendation that patients receiving NHS prescriptions for Sildenafil should receive a maximum of four tablets per month. I have therefore amended your repeat prescription so that in future you will only receive a prescription of 4 tablets per 28 days"

Aside from the fact that I don't (and never have) take Sildenafil, is this directive being enforced elsewhere?

I do suffer from ED and the Doctor (unfortunately no longer with the practice) who initially diagnosed my type II diabetes and started my treatment also gave me Cialis for the ED. I take 5mg per day, every day, as it works in a different way to Sildenafil which is taken "as required" so to speak. Using 4 tablets of Cialis per month would be as effective as burning crows feathers and casting animal entrails.

Guess I'll be having a word tomorrow when I go to the health centre for my retinopathy screening - my repeats are due to be ordered then...

A bit cheeky, but you could ask for the double strength dose saying that the standard dose does not work. You then split the pill into two.
 
One Cialis a day? Jeez, what planet is your prescribing doctor on. All ED drugs are very expensive and Cialis is no exception. The doc gave me a private one by mistake once and the pharmacy wanted to charge me 58 quid for eight tabs! They have always been rationed at one a week, although the doctor is allowed to overide this if in his professional opinion it is necessary. Once a Day? Blimey. As far as I know there are only three drugs on the NHS, Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra and they are all forms of Sildenafild. All are taken 'when required' which as far as NICE is concerned is once a week. Sorry, rant over. I dont post much here. lol.

Cialis's 36-hour effectiveness earned it the nickname, "The Weekend Pill"; like sildenafil and vardenafil, tadalafil is recommended as an 'as needed' medication. Cialis is the only one of the three that is also offered as a once-daily medication.

So a generous decision by your original GP if it is only to treat ED (let us assume this wasn't a minor error in looking up recommended dosage).

If it is effective 'on demand' and works for up to 36 hours then you could probably halve your dose with only minor changes - an occasional night off, perhaps :lol:

However, assuming that your sex life requires a daily pill (paint me jealous) this is going to make a lot of difference and you should be prepared to argue.

I must say that the ability to have sex every day of your life might be regarded as less of a priority than, for instance, providing drugs like Metformin, insulin, statins, anti-cancer drugs etc. so the NICE guidelines may win out in these cash strapped times.
